Some people will recognize this car as the one from Scottsdale, AZ formerly owned by Dan Kennedy. It's spent some time in California when he owned it and made an appearance in Monterey on at least one occasion. There's one well known shot of it at a traffic light with a pair of Ferraris, and another with the same two cars in front of the Oakley factory.

For at least a year Dan had the car listed for sale on this website: http://www.mclarenforsale.com (<-- dead link now) and then claimed that although he'd had several tempting offers, that he'd finally decided to keep the car. About a year later he sold the car to someone in Texas, and they sold the car less than a year later to Bruce Weiner in Atlanta, GA. Mr Weiner has only had the car since ~Sept 2005. Not sure why no one wants to keep it - I'll take it.

It is chassis #038 - originally painted silver, but resprayed this Orange Kandy color when Kennedy purchased the car in late 2001. Here's is the list of factory installed upgrades that Dan Kennedy outlined when he was selling the car:

Asking price is $1.6M - which is pretty reasonable for an F1 these days. The mileage is high for an F1 at ~22,000, but that's not really an issue so long as the servicing has been kept up to date. I know that when Dan owned the car he took good care of it.

And its still a great looking and performing car.

 

To have the money to spend on a ride like that i would spend it elsewhere.....but still it would be nice to have a car like that.

 

This is such a beautiful car. I have seen a two in Europe (on the roads ) and absolutely one of the best sounding engines I have heard. I'd be curious if the eventual buyer if any decided to museum it as art or take it around a track once in a while. Obviously with 22K miles, somebody got curious.

 

The design of the McLaren F1 is very outdated IMO. I rather have a Aston Martin DB9 over that, but that's just me.
