Default Accident... what do u guys think?

Hey guys... my friend ran into someones car at work and this is what it looks like...

she was nice enough to leave a note but now the after estimates, the guy is saying $1500... what do u guys think? probably best for her to go the insurance route now... personally from the picture i would've thought it to be much less than 1500 oh yeah the car in the picture is a some truck but don't know what kind yet... checking it out 2maro

your friend is one of the few honest people that leave notes...

Unfortunately I'd figure that to be correct. Looks like a rear panel, maybe a fender and a bumper cover. Figure that + paint and labor, $1500 doesn't actually sound bad IMO.

From the picture it looks a little bit like a Chevy S-10 rear, but I'm not sure.

If it's an S-10 - depending on how old it is, the guy could almost get a used truck of the same age for 1500 ...

She should let her insurance pay for it. The estimate is probably correct based on the need for parts, labor and color matching. Strong showing of integrity on her part by leaving a note. I wish she had been the one that hit my car 2 years ago because that person opted to flee.

My uncle and I could probably do it the old fashioned way (we don't replace parts) for about $500 to $600 USD, but that is down here in Mexico City.

Replacing those pieces with genuine parts would probably run as low as $1100 USD for that in the U.S.

I would say that is about right, good bodywork is expensive! Your friend must be a saint, they did the right thing by leaving a note!! I wish someone would have left a note on my wife's 3 week old BMW X5 when someone hit it in a parking lot, and she was parked at the end!! They were able to bend out the dent in the front drivers panel and repaint, as well as replace some trim parts and that was about $800. It really sucks when you take care of your stuff and some other a**hole come along and trashes it and then does not care or have the decency to tell you about it.

I am very impressed with your friend! Too few would have left a note. I left a note one time when I bumped a car. I never got a call back??

that would be S-10 late 90's early 00's ,tell her to go trough her insurance, there is about $800-900 damage, and even if he pushes, non of the insurance companies will pay to replace the panels, there is not enough damage, there is about 4 hours on the bed side panel, 1.5 on the tailgate and about the same on the roll pan , that would total 10 hours at $38-40 per hour and about 6-7 hours of refinsh time at about $25 per hour ,about $125 in materials

if the dude agrees to take about 800-900 cash, she's fine, if not ,just tell her to use her insurance policy, cause $1500 is a bit steep, I could see it if it had custom paint job.
good luck

Stefan

I'm not too familiar with the Chevy S10 parts costs so I can't really comment if the $1500 is fair or not. It sounds about fair though based on your average car repair though. All I can say is that I would expect anyone to pay whatever cost it takes to the car whole again. I expect that if someone hit my car so I would be obligated to do the same if I damaged someones car. Someone put a dent in my fender and the replacement for the fender alone was $1200. Total came out over $2000 just to replace and repaint the fender. While my part my be much more expensive than a Chevy S10, sometimes it cost money to fix cars. That is just life.

They are called roll pans. Just like how we do body kits and diffusers and such, truck guys take off their regular bulky bumpers and install roll pans, these are plain straight pieces of sheet metal that bolt up directly to where the old bumper was previously attached… it gives the truck a much cleaner/sleek look

Much less then that.. 16,000 bucks of damaged can be fixed for.. 1,800.

The bumper will obviously have to be replaced, but try SCRATCH-OUT or another good scratch remover on the metal panel in front of it. If those surface blue and white paint stains are not very deep the SCRATCH-OUT will take them out and leave what is left of the good original paint underneath, and save you or the insurance company some repair costs. ( though you may have to rub it hard or do it several times )
If they ARE too deep, or if you are not satisfied with the results, then of course get it repainted.

http://www.kitwax.com/html/kitProducts.htm

( I have seen SCRATCH-OUT work before on many surface paint stains )
