Exclamation Porsche Dealers, 45 day supply of Caymen S

In its initial month of sales, they had a 15 day supply, which doubled to 30, now 45, per Excellence magazine. The editor worries that usually you pay a premium for a converitble Porsche (essentiallhy the Caymen is a Boxster) but here, your paying a premium for a coupe, slotting between the Boxster S and 911.

Sales are dropped 50% after the initial month of sales. It JUST came out.

Trouble?

Its an uglt car and at that price its not a bargain. Id take a Z, RX8 or even a G35 coupe over the cayman anyday.

I think the actual sales volume is more important than the drop in sales. Once the initial demand for a new model introduction is filled, sales are certain to drop. You need data for a longer period of time before you can reach any conclusions. IMO, the Cayman will hold it's own in the 60-80K price catagory.

too bad the price is on the high side but that's how it is with all Porsches. I would not mind having one though.. it would be an awesome track car.. and i don't mean 1/4mile track..

Drove a grey one. Let me say the handling is AMAZING! I would have loved to have this car on the track. As far as straight line performance I was disappointed. I dont think the car is worth its sticker price ( I cant believe I would say that about any P-car), but I would definitely pick it up used. Car is very voluptous for lack of a better word. Seating position is great but clutch is very sissy. I'll post pics if anyone is interested but it was just a standard grey Cayman S with minimal options. I thought I wanted it but then I drove it and i'll wait until I can afford a 997.

I actually like the Cayman very much. I left my test drive very impressed. Unfortunately I can't get over the perception that the Cayman is still just a Boxter at heart. And for a little more money, a 911 can be had.

But the reviews of the Cayman have been outstanding.

IMO the Cayman is a BETTER 911 that doesn't have to be bound to the burden of a rear-engine legacy. Detuned yes, but still quite a bit faster than the Boxster S. It has the best mix of everything.

I would be just as happy owning the Cayman S as I would a 997. It's mid-engined & has a better chassis than the 997. I like it's looks better than the 997 too except it's side profile.

Yeah, the Cayman is pretty impressive. I especially admire the exterior design. But there's just something so appealing about the 911. Either way, I'd love to have either car.

I got to detail one and the owner drove me around in it a bit - interior was beautiful, very solid car, seemed to handle as well as the 911. I think in the end the price is just too high. We'll see.

How much does the Cayman cost? I haven't driven one, but I wouldn't want to spend more than 55,-57,000 on a Cayman S. Much more than that, I'd rather take the step up to the 997.

I want to say Feb was about 1200 and March/April were around 550 sold
