I am so soo bummed out right now.

I wanted to do a sohc Ka build up. Have a strong sohc ka, then turboing it later.

I have a spare block sohc ka I could use.

But im paranoid now. If i build ka I want it to have forged internals carefully put together with patience... I never, ever, ever want to deal with a blown motor ever again. Im getting flares and warning stuff.

Or maybe I should swap an Sr20det and call it a day... but what if it happens again.. you never know what you get with those jdm motors....

you can stick with another ka if you want, but there are better (relatively speaking) parts for the SR20 than the KA24. What was done to the engine/car before it blew up? I will go on a hunch, without hearing the details, and say that it might have been running lean or bad water/cooling problem.
Either motor you decide to build, make sure you get a quality water temperature (very important), oil temp/pressure, and boost (if applicable) gauge when touching either of those nissans. good luck.

A SR20DET swap is going to cost quite a bit - over $10,000 most likely.

The prices have come down significantly lately. I don't know about other places, but in southern California, an S13 SR20DET (red top) with the tranny, harness and computer can be had for about $2500, with shops doing the complete swap for about $4000. Still, even for a red top swap, it'll be nice to have at least $6000 set aside towards the job. Why? because used parts from the oldest SR20DET often need replacing....usually the fuel pump, air flow, and things of that nature........

Are you joking?

3,900 installed.

10,000? .... not even a S15 6 speed should cost that much dude...

IF im doing this and keeping it at its 200 hp level for some time. And build the rest of the suspension/ wheel/tire, bigger brakes etc etc.

I have a spare ka in unknown condtion im trying to get a local person to come with a leakdown tester and check it for me.

It was a stock sohc, just a cone filter in place of the stock air box. I took the valve cover off, and spark plug wires off and cranked the motor. It knocks each time the intake valves in cylinder 3 opens.

Im guessing a spun bearing?

Im really undecided.

If I really choose this route, i could slap some better tires, and call the swapped 240sx done for quite some time while I concetrate my efforts on the SC300.
