Spy photos: Refreshed Volkswagen Touareg
It's not scheduled to go on sale until next spring, but the refreshed 2007 Volkswagen Touareg looks like it's ready for production now. It should be, after all the only changes are some minor revisions to the headlights and taillights along with a few interior upgrades. There's a new pop up navigation system, revised seats and other minor switchgear changes.
In Volkswagen's typically confusing style, the current Touareg is already on sale as an early 2007 with the new 3.6-liter V6 its only upgrade over the 2006 model. Next spring, the refreshed version will debut as a late '07 using the same engine lineup. Adding to the confusion will be the reintroduction of the V10 diesel this fall. It will be sold in all 50 states for a period of about three months, but then will revert to 45-state status after the first of the year since it doesn't meet the more stringent diesel emissions rules which go into effect in 2007.

I think the refresh will do a lot for this truck - the front end especially which has aged poorly in my opinion. And the new 3.6L V6 + diesel V10 will round out the power options each side of the V8.

i dunno how looks will improve the sales
this SUV has been more unreliable than domestic SUVs
the chasis and internal architecture has been crap starting with the design and engineering
most mechanics will tell u that they dont understand why VW designed it that way
its also the reason why Cayenne pulled Porsche's reliability rating down from top #1 to like bottle in the last couple of years
they should just totally scrap the car and redesign a whole new SUV instead
something based on the Q7
that new passat look is nice though

Even though they are sold where I live in Mexico, I hardly see any on the streets, but tons of Cayennes. I know the head of the Porsche dealer where I live and it is less than 200 feet from the VW/Seat dealer. He says that commonly people will first go see the VW (obviously a $$$ thing) and then they see the Porsche dealer and drive away with a V6 Cayenne. Even though all part of the same company, he remarked that people who have that kind of $$$ want that luxury. He said about the only other thing that people will do if they do not want the Cayenne is go to the Acura dealer about 700 feet around the corner and take a look at the MDX.
