View Full Version : WOW!!!!!!! 22's on a Q... no prob!

Just rode in my neigbors Q.... man that thing rides smooth and even on the 22's you barely notice the difference, that suspension is awesome. I think he's running a staggered setup with 22x9 and 22x10 in the rear with a 4 or 5 inch lip. It's just sick!!!. I think this car swallows 22's even better than the 7 series or 300m. It looks just perfect on the car.

same low pros that are on the 7 series... anyone on 22's ( on cars) are going to either be riding on 30 series tires or 25. Honestly it rides great and you wouldnt know the difference until you actually got outside and looked at the wheels.

he definitely needs a kit for that car. It'll look awesome! Perhaps JP or Wald will do :D

If these auto enthusiasts boards is an indicator, I think I should start a bent-wheel repairing business and make big money.

I dont think his tires are stretched... runs a 285 in the rear and I think a 245 in fronts. Are those recommended for 9 and 10 inch width's? All I know it looks perfect in person and rides great   . I didnt know the Q could handle such big widths on the car and sits so flush againt the car. The wheel wells are much bigger than the LS430.

LexKilla
07-17-06, 03:14 PM
well im not the biggest advocate of big wheels but I do think it actually looks good in person. I think it actually handles the big wheels better than either the 7 series or Dodge charger. To each his own... thats what makes america great... I think I'll be getting a Q ... rides great!!

Yes, and those WIDTHS can go on SC, GS, (and LS too, I believe) ok.

It's not the width that makes it looked stretched or so skinny to me, but the series, what are they 285/25s or something? :uh:

You can run staggered 22's on those cars like the Q?? I know you can run those widths on 20's but going to 22's you dont think that would be a problem?

Interesting how most give mad props when we see 22's on the 7-series, but this Q45 comes along and its an instant :thumbdn: from EVERYONE!! Just an observation. :)

LOL, but I must agree, it just doesnt look as good. Maybe its the style rim, no drop, or not as an attractive bodystyle. IMO this car begs for the VIP treatment.

I dont know man.. car looks killer in person... Everyone in the neighborhood has complimented him like he's the president. These are people who own S550 and new 7 series.

Is your neighbors name Bruce?? I dealt with a guy for about a month that had a Q and wanted to run 22"s. If it is Bruce tell him Derrick from D2 said hello. Also ask where is the 6" lip he told me he was gonna get! lol (just a little inside joke) :) :)

To be honest, I see 7 series all the time with the nastiest non staggered cheapie wheels and it looks just as bad as anything else. The things that makes the 7 a slam dunk with wheel fitment is the lip sizing (3.5" front with bbk clearance, 5" rear with bbk clearance is a snooze for any decent manufacturer), and also the ability to slam the car after fitting 22" wheels

In my opinion (personal taste) when you increase the diameter of the wheel by 4 or 5" (the Q has 17s or 18's standard), if you cannot then lower the car by at least 2" then its not going to look right, and . Thats the reason everyone is not really liking the outcome, its because the car looks "awkward". Trust me, with the tire sizing on the market now, 22's alone is no big deal at all, you will see them on Camry's and Accords in about 3 minutes.

Its all about completing the package IMO

sorry but the wheels just dont look right, too big. Maybe if it was lowered it would look better, also a better design of wheel would help.

You're right, you can't run 22's on GS/SC/LS and have it still properly drivable.

A 30 series tire on a 285 width is 3.36" tall if my math is right.

On a 22" rim that sidewall is about 15% the size of the rim.

A 35 series on a 285 width on a 20' rim for example, is nearly 20% the size of the rim so it doesn't look so 'skinny'.

They look like the TrafficStars that TLW had except in chrome? TrafficStar RTS? But I didn't think that they'd be available in 22's.

I'm also not a fan of huge wheels but I can understand what he's saying. They don't look THAT bad. Considering the wheel design, it's not as much of an eyesore as most 22's I've seen. The wheels do seem a little too big on the car. IMO, 20's are perfect and any bigger requires a lot of exterior cosmetic work before it achieves VIP status.

The car needs some work before those 22's will flow right with the car and even with work, the wheels may still be too big and stand out.

He needs a drop and a vip style kit (EXAMPLE: JP) before he can get those 22's to look right on the car.

IMO, 20's, a kit, and a drop will make more heads turn than simply 22's. Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better.

Even on the 7-series, unless the 22's match the car perfectly (wheel design, ride height, etc.), the car can't carry off the look.

My beef with most guys who do big set-ups like this is that they don't LOWER THE CAR.

They think "I'll just but enormous wheels on it, that way I won't have to lower the car." Wrong.

Here's a Q45 with 22s that is lowered- looks 1,763 times better (in my opinion).

Too bad the guy wouldn't stagger the wheel widths- these cars BEG for a fat lip and wide rubbber out back!

Milla...

I'd rather a GS on 20s, a LS on 20s, a 745 on 20s, a S on 20s, a XJ8 on 20s, a new 5 on 20s, than a Q on 22s. He could have 30" wheels, it won't matter.

The math is wrong, the car looks weird, I'll give him a cookie for trying so he can say "hey I got my car on 22s". I bet with the stock brakes behind it, it looks ridiculous.

The lowered Q45 SoCal posted looks better but its still not a pretty car to look at and one of the reasons it is discontinued.

I think I am going to start buying size 18 Jordans on my feet b/c it technically has more leather and its MORE shoe than my proper size, a 13.

Bigger is better right?

I'm a big fan of shoes that are too big. When I lose one, no problem, I put both my feet in the remaining shoe and hop away.

I feel good too, because I figure a peg leg pirate with a single size 18 foot stole my shoe, and now is happily stomping around somewhere.

makes me feel almost as good as seeing a Q45 on rubber bands :)

Im the owner of the Q, I read all the posts and dont take any offense to the comments but I find majority of you on here rather amusing. And no my car does not ride like poop ;). The suspension on the Q is adjustable and makes it possible to run bigger rims withouth sacrificing ride so no compromise there.... honestly cannot tell the difference between stock and the 22's other then when I hit potholes.

The car is still stock height and is slightly taller due to the extra inch in wheel diameter. I will be dropping it around 2 inches and adding a JP kit and brembs in the coming months. I'm just contemplating if I should do an air runnner suspension or not so I got more researching to do. More things to but thats a secret for now.

Well in your opinion it looks weird.. .maybe because its not a lexus but why would anyone expect anything else on a Lexus board. ;) . Well I'll say it apparently doesnt look to weird to a few big name Motorsport companies who approached me about putting my Q in their magazines because they liked my 2005 that much. I dont want to have any pictures taken until I get my Brembos and JP kit so they'll have to hold off. I just find it funny for some and YOU to criticize someone's ride you have no clue about and assume the person slapped on some rims and called it a day. My friend as the same generation Q45 like you have and is also silver like yours. He has the full Junctihon Produce kit, grill, front hood spoiler, and is on air runner suspension. Your car rides relatively smooth, not because of the 22" wheels or the rubber-band tires, but primarily because of the long Q45 wheelbase and adjustable shock damping. Ordinarily, on most cars, tires and wheels like these will give a bucking-bronco ride ( and quicker steering response, of course ).
You mention hitting potholes. Be CAREFUL. Smooth ride or not, hitting potholes with a tire-wheel combination like this is just asking for damage. There simply isn't much tire sidewall or cushion to absorb the impact....and that impact is transmitted right through to the wheel rim.
Also, with larger-than-standard wheels / tires like these, depending on the total outside diameter of the package, it can make the speedometer and odometer read low by lowering the rotational speed of the wheels in relation to the car's true speed. A low-reading speedometer can get you speeding tickets and a low-reading odometer can void the car's warranty by altering the car's true mileage. .

I agree, thanks for the comments guys. So as far as air runner suspension why would you recommend it. It rides so great now I dont want to compromise the ride quality but I would like to make the ride height adjustable. Can I have both coil and air setup or just the one?

I like the Air Runners for the ease of adjusting the ride height. Literally hitting a switch. At shows he drops it all the way down. During daily driving he raises it a little lower than what you have right now. If he comes up to a steep driveway he can raise it even higher. All without getting out of the car. Coil overs will handle better period, but to make adjustments takes time. The Air suspension are not really made for handling corners, but they do ride real nice and smooth. There will be body roll around corners, but most people who get air do not drive their cars really agressively especially with the 20 or 22" rims. I'm not sure how my friend got the JP kit, I'll have to ask. I know it took a long time to arrive though.

Air runner sounds like the way to go but the car rides so perfect now I'm afraid it might make the car's suspension like honda or something. Yeh, see if you can find out from your friend where he got it from... it would be much appreciative. Im guessing they run around 3k? Any local socal spots that do a good install? There is a point where big wheels don't look "just right"

Your friend has reached that point :thumbdn:

Because they fit, doesn't make it right

Amen.

Man you could roll through the ghetto in that car and pick up all kinds of chicks

No taste in the design of that. What magazine wanted to put that in their lineup? I see cars like that everyday and every make and model, etc... Rims are too big for the car. I'd never run bigger than 19" rims on a car anyways (some fat lips of course), unless it was like a 300c or something where 20s are stock and look small.
