I drive pretty fast. I can't stand driving behind someone if there is room in front of them or to the side of them... I'll usually pass them and then slow down a bit, but I always try to stay ahead of the pack. :D

it depends on my mood and who pisses me off on the road....usually i'm pretty much about 5-10 miles over the speed limit unless all the other cars are going faster...

Mostly fast and I don't consider it aggressive but I'm sure other drivers do. Always over the speed limit, never drive beside or behind anyone; faster than 99% of the cars. Try to use the #1 lane for passing only, always try to stay to the right; will not tailgate and will give other drivers extra time to merge over but if they don't, I will pass on the right if I have to. Don't wait in long lines to slowly exit the freeway but won't drive all the way up and then try to cut in line either. When the road opens up ahead of me, the need for speed almost always kicks in with 90-100 feasible. Always looking for cops, will slow down over hills and around corner, knows that rolling radar is very rare in Kansas so I hardly pay attention to car going the opposite way and no attention at all when their is a hard median; knows that if I drive fast, I will be responsible even if someone else does something stupid and am always prepared to break and/or manuever; not looking out for deer or animals and I know I should but it's so wide open here; slows down only a little at night; I always slow down in wet or inclement weather...always.

I drive fast. Typically 10-15 mph over the speed limit on freeways.
However, I am always safe.
And I am always courteous. I always use my turn signals to change lanes. I always allow plenty of space between cars. I always stay on the fast lane only and pass left only.
I never honk my horn unless it's an emergency. I never cut people off. I never use any hand gesture against anyone. I never cross the double yellow line. I tailgait and flash my headlights sparingly. I thank people who let me pass.
I communicate. I communicate to most other drivers out there that I'm in a hurry. I do not communicate to other drivers that I'm an a-hole looking for trouble.
Be nice on the freeways and people will let you be...

I never drive aggressive, but I do tend to stick to the far left lane around 65ish, and enjoy taking the sweeping turns without braking. I tend to move at a quicker pace when there is less traffic, otherwise I'm more relaxed and tailing the car in front by 3 lengths or so. Unless someone is going slow in the 'fast' lane, I very rarely pass on the right. If someone is in my blind spot, or in some situation where I feel I could be in danger, I never hesitate to speed up and place myself in my own bubble. I'm always careful with how I brake as well, and always signal so that the person behind knows what I'm doing (especially for trucks and heavier vehicles). Every once in a while too, when conditions permit, I'll have a brief sprint with another car if I feel like having some fun.
To note, with any of my above behavior, I've never really been honked at, or high beamed.:)
When it rains, I'm doing the speed limit or less depending, and keeping about 4 cars distances or more.

I drive fast in only one lane. Either the most left, or second to the left.
I'm a firm believer that the left lane should be used for passing only and therefore I use it for that purpose only.
I never flash people. I used to flash people but I learned that was very unsafe and unheard of. Instead now to communicate to folks in the very most left lane that it should be used for passing only I blink my foglights. A lot less obtrusive and it seems to work well.
I keep a minimum of 100ft between the car ahead of me and me. I prefer 300ft, but other drivers get the idea that they should just weave in and out making it a lot more dangerous than not having the massive gap.

Im a faster driver. Usually in the 70 to 80 range. Not that aggressive (LOL I like how just about everyone above me and including me always says "Im not aggressive", but we damn well know we can be and to some are :D ), just depending on where I am going and if I am late. Not the one to dip and dodge in and out of traffic cause most of the time they only get 50 ft ahead anyway. Whats the point? :thumbdn: I dont tailgate, but I do flash when Im coming up on you and there is room to move over.
I try to stay out of the left lane as much as possible because I notice that a great majority of drivers do not understand that the left lane is for passing only(unless there is a leftlane exit, then so be it). So they sit there in the left lane with a 100 ft gap in front of them while theres 23 cars behind him all suffering from tunnel vision. And usually during heavy traffic the left lane is the first lane that comes to a screeching halt. :egads: Accident just waiting to happen. Then Im forced to pass them in the clear middle lane. That is why I try to stay in the middle or right lane as much as possible.

Why do some of you dont pass on the right? What if very left lane is doing 70 and second from the left is doing 69, second from the right is empty with a car infront about 3 car length ahead doing about 65 and most right lane has a car doing 62. What do you do? Wait for the 70 to get ahead of the 69? I sure cant stand that.

I drive rather slow, almost always at 80Kmh, speed up to avoid the big rigs, I used to drive rather aggressively when I had the bimmer, now with the benz I'm a really laid back kind of guy. Actually I mostly drive slow to conserve on the fuel, also because I don't feel confident speeding in this car with its slippery 195 tires.

I'm usually 10-15mph over, but i'm very curteous of other drivers and don't weave in and out of traffic. I used to be a pretty aggressive driver when i was 18-22, but now i'm pretty conservative.
I justify my speeding by practicing levels of "situational awareness" that could probably be considered obsessive-compulsive. I feel that more accidents are caused by inattentive zombie drivers and cell phone users than speeders.

I drive pretty fast everytime I hit the highway, between 75-90. I try to be courteous though. I will weave in and out through traffic if there are a bunch of slowpokes in front of me. Some people just don't understand they should be over in the right lanes if they wanna drive slow. I am always concious of others though. I enjoy driving and really wish we had an Autobahn where we can drive as fast as we want.

It depends on where you are going, my ex-work was somewhere in the desert, so I used to drive 100km everyday without stopping. most people of course work in the city, and traffic there is a nightmare, Idle for 95% of the time and move a meter or 2 forward. its really very very bad, in some cities there are a lot of cops and in others...... nil, same with radars.
I really don't like to go anywhere because everywhere i want to go to is stuck with cars.

We can't use an Autobahn correctly. Our drivers ed system can't handle it.

Yeah almost the same in indonesia, the horrible thing about it is that they made a "busway" to an already small road (3 lanes to 2) and the lanes over there are equivalent to about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 lanes here in the US. Big bus, cars, motorcycles, people carrying carts, and Bajai (or TukTuk) all into these 2 small lanes.

Agreed. I dont get how some people drive over here... when they see an open lane, they take it, but they stay at the same speed. People should learn that when you change lane, you should speed up and pass then get back to their original lane if theyre going slow.

I drive fast but usually limit it to the #1 and #2 lanes. Nothing crazy. I've been in an accident that totalled my last car so I'm now a bit more cautious. I didn't cause the accident but I've learned that while I may think I'm a good/safe driver I can't control the moron in the car next to me.

I've had my time of tickets and meetings with LEO's. The goal is to get to my destination alive, car undamaged and with as little blood pressure change as needed. So interpret that as speed limit in the slow lane in most instances. In LA-OC, that often means sub popsted limits anyhow.
Came across an RX330 driver the other day that was in a major rush...driving from left to right lanes during the commute. Provoked lots of horn honking and I'm thinking :egads: the popularity of Lexus means I'll likely see more of these types on the roads. So the stereo type of slow will likely be replaced with "Lexus drivers, drive like they own the road".

I loosely follow the rules of the German autobahn as far signaling, lane changing, and passing are concerned (for those of who don't know what that means, go to this site: http://gettingaroundgermany.home.att.net/autobahn.htm and click on the traffic regulations link) But, I try to keep the speeds around 75 on small freeway jaunts and around 85-100 on long free way stints unless my V1 goes off (has saved me countless times). I would consider myself courteous fast driver.

old thread but, those hybrid drives in California annoy the hell out of me when I am driving with my friends/family in the car pool lane at rush hours. They usually drive no faster than those in slower lane but to block the whole car pool lane doing 55. I don't use flash but I just follow them very closely till they don't feel comfortable blocking the whole damn lane. And I only do it in my 4Runner. :D

The reason that a lot of people drive that speed is that limits are not adequately enforced. And that is just what happens when speed limits are NOT enforced.....you get the people who are doing the limit clashing with those who are going way over. It's going to be a problem as long as there aren't enough police to keep speeds down.

I hear this alot. I too tend to drive fast, but I've found a shocking number of people actually drive at the speed limit even in California. In fact, I get very frustrated driving in the East Bay Area because the general flow of traffic on the freeways (especially I-880) is at or below the speed limit - even where its 55.
Most of the people saying traffic goes 80 don't go the speed limit, so they couldn't know how many people are really driving legally. I used to say the same thing. Then I slowed down (got a ticket) and quit driving 85 everywhere. I realised there are a LOT of people driving 65 mph because I was driving much closer to their speed.
I'd like to say I follow the basic rules of courtesy, and I try to consider the needs of others - especially truckers - but I know there are times when I cut people off by accident, and there are times when other drivers look at what I'm doing and think I must be some kind of arrogant jerk. I'm sure they do because I feel that way enough times to know someone else must be thinking the same thing about me.

My drive goes from 3 lanes to two, and usually I stay in the far left lane doing about 80 and 90 when I'm in a rush. Really the rest of us drive that fast and unless you are from out of state you know to stay out of the left lane unless you are hauling ass!!
So I guess I am a conservative speeder?

I personally find that the highway speed limits here are too slow, especially since we have tolls every 5 miles and IL troopers every 10. They're 55 mph here, and the 2 lane, curvy, hilly country road outside my house is 55 as well. I don't get why an 8 lane highway should have the same speed limit as that road outside.
I do probably 70-80, I usually try to stay in the 2 left lanes (although 2 miles of left lane usage is illegal here, and it's also enforced). It sucks that I actually have to watch out for cops more than I watch out for other drivers. I don't cut back and forth, but I do cut over a few lanes if I know there's a merge or an exit that'll lock things up a bit. I change one lane at a time, signal every time, I don't follow too closely at all, and I don't cut back and forth between lanes either (usually because I'm not going that much faster than everyone else, if at all).
