Hopefully an easier one this time.

Take a picture of a bottle. Any bottle.

Think about the type of bottle, the lighting, the background, the focus, the angle...

Just took a few quick pics. Maybe I'll mess around with angles, lighting and all that other stuff later.

Hey that's cool, G!

Pics are a li'l soft - what kind of camera is that?

Be precise about where you place the bottles and what else you have (or don't have) in the shot. I think you could do something very striking there. Good job!

Thanks. I have a Kodak Easyshare DX-(and a bunch of random numbers). Takes awsome daytime pictures, but dark or nighttime pictures are weak. Probably because I do not know how to use all of the features. It has the adjustments for shutter speed and the other stuff (presets as well), but I don't have the slightest clue how to use it or what it means. LOL.

Well, first thing I'd suggest is using the timer and using a tripod or a shelf/books/stool/counter whatever to get the camera STILL. That might explain the softness/blur.

Well figured I would try to bang somthing out here however nothing seemed to want to cooperate with me. Here are 2 pics but the lighting is off etc. I will try to get some better shots up but i have been working 7 day a week so not to much time for the fun. 2 bad ones better than none... may be.

Um, well, it's a bottle, yes. :p

But you can do better. :D

Get creative. Slather some whipped cream on it. Write something cool in Arabic on it (which would be mysterious to most on CL). Put the bottle or you or the camera at an interesting angle. Put another bottle with it. Dress the bottle up. Capture water leaking out of it at fast shutter speed. Stick the bottle in the freezer for a day.

Try to block out uninteresting things in the background unless you really want them there.

Just a few ideas...

OK. Let me try this again. Different setting. I think its a little better. But I still think there is tons of room for improvement. I dunno what it is. Maybe the bottles are glowing to intensely for the camera. But it still doesnt seem as sharp as it could be.

hmmmm....really wierd. When I view the pics in full screen on my picture/camera program it looks better than my first group of pics, but when I resize it and post it here on the forum, it looks kinda blurry. :uh: Maybe its just me and Im expecting to much.

However I can definitely tell when you said the first pics looked soft.

Looks nice Pete. What kind of wooden holder is around the bottle in the first pic?? Looks interesting.

ANd I concur AJ. Do something cool with the bottle. Get creative if you must. Maybe photoshop it?? But I shouldnt be the one giving advice.

just a flat piece of wood :)

http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/data//3446/Wine_Bottle_holder_2006-09-20_827.jpg

Works on the principal of balance, base of the wood is beveled at 45 deg.

Made is out of some scrap wood I had laying around in the wood shop from a design in Wood Magazine.

One more, this one has more technical and compositional issues than I was willing to fine tune. The compound curves picked up everything in sight and the highlights aren't smooth but rather distracting IMO. My critique: loose the book and a bit of backlight to highlight through the bottle to reveal the SMS would have been nice.

You cut off the top and the bottom and I'm unclear on what the background is about.

But yes, it is a bottle. :D

Ah, I caught this assignment late. This is all I could come up with at the last minute. Just moved into a new house so I don't have many bottles around. Maybe after the housewarming I'll have more...:)

Davar for some reason your pics are coming up really slow or not fully at all - but I like the first Absente pic (2 bottles and lion). Just my opinion but to me it might have been nice not to crop part of the lion base.
