Driven by the famous race driver...I forgot his name.:D The result is much expected but I"m still amazed at how calmly the 550i maneuvers.:eek2: Notice how much the tires squeal in the GS while in the 550i there's almost no squealing noise to be heard.

Lexus should seriously give the GS a true sports package (with sport suspensions, sportier steering and active stablizer bar) if they intend to continue marketing the GS as a sports sedan.

Notice even on the initial launch the GS tires are spinng/slipping but the BMW just rockets away with no spin?

Agreed, but I don't think it's going to happen. But the strange thing is why Lexus would continue to run ads like two GS350's racing to get out Manhattan when they're so unsporty.
For '07 at least the active rear stablizer (from the GS450h) is available on the GS430 - which should help quite a bit in handling.
But you could also see in the video just how sloppy the GS steering control from the wheel is vs. the other 2.

It'd be interesting to see how the cars faired without the stupid RFT's. I hate those things. :/

lol, what would be interesting would be to see the test done again w/ a modified susp. GS430 vs. the other 2. Then another test w/ all cars having a similarly modified susp.

The GS430 time wasn't that bad since it was about 1/2 a sec slower than the Fuga, wonder what time a GS450h would've ran

But believe it or not, they have a higher skidpad #s in the dry vs. regular tires - the ultra stiff sidewall apparently helps. In the wet however, just the opposite.
That was GREAT to watch!

For a car that has 360 lb-ft of torque the rears are really hard to spin from a stop in the dry heat :(

Out of the box, none of those sedans will beat Bimmer in the handeling department. Now through a modded GS with suspension upgrades. Bimmer what??:p

Well that's not fair.... how about a BMW with suspension mods compared to the GS with them.... :)

Common it’s not as bad as you make it sound. Yes, it’s not the best handler out of the three but sloppy? I think it’s too much of a word to describe the GS’s steering control…

Again, the GS isn’t “so unsporty”, sure the M and the 5 series are sportier, but I think claiming the GS being “so unsporty” is an exaggeration.
I really liked the GS/Manhattan ads, I thought they where much better than the other ones :) (Grabbed my attention more, and that’s what marketers want)… Maybe Lexus markets the GS as a sporty midsize sedan because people buying those kinds of cars like “the idea” of a sport sedan. I mean it’s not like Lexus is saying the GS will woop the Porsche’s a$$.

I'd have to say that the GS is one of the more dissappointing cars from Lexus. IMO it is the only one that does not achieve it's goals. The LS is the flag ship luxury sedan that competes with the S class and 7 series and it does that well.
The ES, and entry level luxury sedan, not ment to be sporty but ment to take you from point A to B comfortably, in style and affordably and it does that well.
The IS, entry level luxury sports sedan ment to compete with the 3 series, C class, G35, etc etc and it does that well.
The GS, luxury sports sedan ment to compete with the M, E Class, 5 series, etc etc and it falls short.

Well it's true. The loose steering from the GS makes the response less predictable with too much steering play. The driver had to fight with the car in order not to lose control. At around the 3rd turn or so, you can see the GS wagging its tail out.
The GS is not really a sport sedan, nor does it drive like one. The only thing it has going for is RWD and a V8, but that doesn't make it all of the sudden a sport sedan. Lexus just markets the car as a sport sedan, but honestly, its not sporty at all.
Leave it to Lexus if you want a comfortable ride
Leave it to BMW/Infiniti if you want a more sport-oriented drive.

I wasn't talking about handling there, but about the steering - watch the video and watch the driver attempting to control the car with the STEERING WHEEL. It looks like he's steering a ship in the GS whereas the BMW for example looks like he's driving a race car.

OK, how about "less sporty than all its competition"? :)

Something like the Maxima to me is marketing with the 'idea' of a sport sedan.
If Lexus brought out a GS with decent rims with better fitment to the fenders, 1" lowered, quickened the steering ratio, made the adjustable suspension have a more sporty setting, then with the new active rear stabilizer I think the car would be MUCH better received. I'm not taking GIANT changes here.

Who the hell drives these cars like this anyways? As far as I'm concerned, the GS rides much better, and has better acceleration than M45. If you want handling - get an S2000.

I agree with GS rides better, but not better acceleration than the M45. The GS450h yes, but it's the soon to be replaced GS430 tested here.
I agree the GS will handle better with the new ASSS suspension option, but why they limit it to the 2007 GS430/450h/460 & not the GS350 ?

Handling is overrated. My LS400 was just stolen on wednesday, so I've been driving my GS430. Blah... It rides like a friggin horse and the steering is stupid stiff. I'm gonna get another LS400 and replace the GS with SC430.
