Default $3.8-million-bulletproof-rolls-planned-for-chinese-show

We came across a very special one-off Rolls Royce Phantom over at BornRich, which is set to debut at the first ever luxury goods exhibition in China’s Guangzhou province this December. The vehicle that is priced at $3.8 million is built on a long wheelbase Phantom platform that’s 250mm longer than the standard version, and is said to be completely bulletproof. It would seem there’s significant demand for the über safe luxury vehicles. You remember our previous posts on bulletproof vehicles from the likes of Bentley and Range Rover.

Under the hood sits the same BMW derived 6.8L V12 from the regular car, complete with 453hp (338 kW) and 720 Nm of torque. China’s rapid industrialization has created a large number of wealthy individuals who are demanding top-end luxury goods.

those bullet proof cars serve no real purpose, if someone really wanted you dead, that car wouldn't stop it from happening. A sniper round is the size of a hot dog. It'll stop some douche bag on the sidewalk from shooting you with his small hand gun, but thats about it.

Mercedes has been making armored S-classes for decades. If they wanted the best in armored car protection they should have bought an armored S-class.

there are some armoured cars that can take on a 50 cal bullet

there are tires out there with steel rims build into the tires
such as the Humvee

that depends on what level of bullet proof you want to get
there are many levels that money can buy and the bigger the rounds you want to stop, the heavier the vehicle will ended up being

the armoured cars can get really heavy
to a point that the car needs brake upgrades, and suspension/spring upgrades

haha yeah
but the point of bulletproofing civilian cars is so that you can look good, function as any other rich folks without looking like an idiot
who shows up to a red carpet event with an M1A1?

I have actually seen an armored Bentley down here in Mexico (there is a dealer of sorts), but there is a huge and I mean big, armor proofing business in Mexico City. A lot of businessmen have TypeIV armor in addition to bodyguards in tow.

My cousins were joking with me yesterday after seeing a 3 vehicle convoy, it was armored new 325i surrounded by a Suburban and a Mitsubishi Outlander with bodyguards in both, exactly that, wait until he gets out or they could toss a grenade under the other two vehicles. Believe me, I have seen on the news and heard stories about people getting kidnapped down here in some wacky ways.

That movie Man on Fire with Denzel Washington is still fiction with regard to Mexico City, but it came pretty close to some things I have heard go on down here.

No armor is impenetrable, if someone wants you badly enough, they'll reach out and touch you, whether with a Barrett, a mine, an RPG, or a tank round. The purpose of armoring a limo is just to protect the owner from the casual shooter - a stickup artist with a .38 or a propeller-head with his deer rifle.

Nice looking Rolls though, but I'd think about retiring or finding another line of work if my job put me in that much danger. . . .
