Despite a huge amount of demand, BMW has never built an M3 Tour*ing – until now. OK, so the new 335i Touring doesn’t officially wear the fabled M badge, but in terms of performance, it packs an M3-sized punch.

Boasting the same twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six as the two-door 335i tested in Issue 929, the load-lugger will cover the 0-60mph sprint in less than six seconds and return 28.8mpg on the combined cycle, too.

But headline figures fail to tell the whole story. The powerplant has 400Nm of torque on tap from only 1,300rpm, and that gives this lifestyle estate awesome acceleration anywhere in the rev range. There’s no need to change down – simply plant your foot and hang on.

All the attributes that have made the standard 3-Series Touring our class favourite remain intact. The 460-litre boot is well thought out and comparatively spacious, the seats fold easily, the driving position is excellent and all the controls work smoothly.

The ride on the 18-inch wheels is firm, but if you want to save money and take a more gentle approach, go for the 335i SE at £2,810 less.

Jesus, that's sexy. For someone that loves decent sport sedans and has kids, this has to be on the test drive list. Too bad it'll never be brought to the states.

I looked at a 3-series wagon before I came down here, but decided on an SUV instead. I still can't believe these things finally have turbochargers.

I'd be interested to see if they bring it to Mexico, as we have had the 1 series for a while for instance.

Always loved the Bimmer wagons. The e46 ones were somewhat underpowered. I'm glad they rectified that. :)

You didn't, perchance, have a ZHP before that, did you?

A forum where you no longer post much anymore... ;) I suspected it was you long ago, based on your name and location, but never thought you'd actually buy a Lexus. :p

I didn't read the article. Are they actually bringing this to the US? And an M3 Touring would still be cooler. :D

I never thought I'd buy a Lexus either. But I had to ditch the S2000 for another sedan. That was a hard thing to stomach. I went with the IS because at the time the 325i was too little car for the money, and also I didn't care for the snooty BMW salespeople here in FL. They couldn't get past the fact that I actually wanted a manual transmission and no leather, and seriously had little real interest in helping me unless I went with their golden child 325i PP, Step, and no sport package. No thanks.

I also like trying new cars to mix it up a bit, and got a great price on the IS250, so I went for it. There are things I don't like about the car, but they aren't enough to make we want to sell it right away.

Anyhow, I seriously doubt they'll bring the 335 touring to the states. Every salesperson I've talked to about it has been adamant that the higher-end 3 series touring wouldn't sell enough to make it a profitable venture. Unfortunately, they're probably right.

Looks like a lowered x3. The rear end styling with spoiler and fin style antenna looks like like it came straight from the X3. They better come out with an M3 wagon...I'll ditch my X3 in a minute:p

I would take this over a X3 or X5 anyday if I want more cargo space & a bigger rear opening for wider loads . . .

See, why would anyone buy an X3? The 3 series wagon is lower, faster, sportier, bigger cargo space and cheaper to buy. There are some blind people in this world lol.

Anyway, this looks great! A fast wagon without breaking the bank and getting an E55 AMG lol.

The x3 is a SAV compared to the 3 series wagon. The X3 actually outhandles every 3 series. even out handles the mighty M5 on the skidpad. There is no bodyroll whatsoever in the X3. Amazing for a SAV eh?

Wow I need a wagon for next summer. Badass, I wish they were more reliable. I had a E46 ZHP 330i and the power went out 2 hours after driving it off the lot. Was vice free the rest of the time though.
