View Full Version : Next Corolla SEDAN unveiled at Beijing auto show (update pg. 2)
XeroK00L 11-16-06, 12:37 PM Well...this is all I got. The rest of the pics are in a subscriber-only area which I have no access to. But you get the idea. Not bad. A baby Camry basically.
http://tw.autonet.com.tw/news/tmp/a61105091.jpg
I can't tell the length but it looks like the Corolla will become the size of today's Camry in the not too distant future, just like a Civic is the size of an old Accord.
blacksc400 11-16-06, 01:29 PM the lower front bumper looks like IS too...
baby camry...
Note to Toyota: not all your cars need to look exactly the same. ;)
ugly. Civic looks tons better
That doesnt look to bad. Looks better than the Japanese version IMO. Need to see more pics.
1SICKLEX 11-16-06, 02:55 PM Note to Toyota: not all your cars need to look exactly the same. ;)
BMW finally got that note after 50 years of sameness;)
Looks good to me, its a COROLLA, I am not expecting a styling knock-out
cliffud 11-16-06, 03:00 PM Note to Toyota: not all your cars need to look exactly the same. ;)
exactly.
and if they do all look the same? sales of the lower priced cars will naturally canibalize sales of the higher priced cars.
Did you all know the new camry is available with HID? aye caramba! there should be more differentiators between lexus / toyota. yeah- lexus has more electronic goodies in it with more sound dampening but c'mon - they need to differ more.
lexusk8 11-16-06, 03:11 PM As long as it retains the EPA mileage of 30/38 mpg like in the '07 model, the new Corolla is fine by me.
Doesn't look too bad at all
CK6Speed 11-16-06, 04:30 PM I like the front end so far. I need to see the side profile and rear to make final judgment. Lately, I've been disliking the style of the rear end on many new cars so I'll wait and see what this one looks like.
vader11 11-16-06, 04:39 PM This is the Japanese version of the new Corolla: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t150452.html
The China version is expected to be the same as the Japanese version except the front...

Cool, the rear end looks good. Side profile still looks a little short and fat, but over all very good for a Corolla.
I like it, but the Camry and Corolla should look more different
TheRupp 11-16-06, 05:18 PM exactly.

It is? I don't recall the XLE or the Hybrid having HID headlights.
I agree with everyone else though... sometimes I'll even think the front of a Yaris is a Camry for a quick second.
r4z0r3ck 11-16-06, 06:40 PM from a distance you might mistake the new camry for the new IS now the corolla might too... a year from now the IS might not stand out anymore...

The upcoming replacement for the Toyota Corolla Altis here in Malaysia might see the introduction of a CVT transmission, thanks to a new pair of engine and transmission announced last month by Toyota as part of it’s efforts to revamp it’s gasoline engine and transmission line-up by the year 2010.
The new engine is the 1.8 liter 2ZR-FE, which replaces the 1ZZ-FE in Toyota’s line-up. The 2ZR-FE has a few enhancements over the 1ZZ-FE found in our current Toyota Corolla Altis. For one, the new 2ZR-FE has Dual VVT-i which varies valve timing optimally for various engine speeds and loads on both the intake and exhaust valves. The previous 1ZZ-FE only has variable valve timing on the exhaust valves. Maximum torque has increased from 170Nm at 4,200 rpm to 175Nm at 4,400 rpm. Horsepower has increased from 132hp at 6,000 rpm to 136hp at 6,600 rpm. Fuel efficiency is supposed to be 5% higher compared to conventional engines.

Overall I think Toyota has done an excellent job at keeping Corolla what it is while giving it a new but familiar look.:thumbup:

1SICKLEX 11-20-06, 06:33 PM Wow, not bad for a 14-21k car!
BMW finally got that note after 50 years of sameness;)
Looks good to me, its a COROLLA, I am not expecting a styling knock-out
yeah, first its bad toyota for cars looking different, then it is bad toyota for cars looking similar.
Its great that BMW's look the same... and its great that MB's look the same... it is only that Toyota's shouldnt look them same, so we can criticize them for .... not looking similar.
:-).
If someone has problems with determening if car is Yaris or Camry, theres got to be something wrong with their eyes.
Most important thing is that new styling works, and new cars look great. Camry's (especially SE) look awesome.
And this Corolla is going in right direction, plus interior is going to be masterful.

Edison_Chen 11-21-06, 09:58 PM The front end looks good, the rear is slightly different from the current model
i hate how the taillight buldges out. It's very annoying, but that's just me. :(
Am I reaching on this one???!! :dunno:

acerfan 12-02-06, 08:29 PM While I was surfing the net, i saw that someone had posted new images, well new to me at least, of the corolla, europen specs.

looks a hell lot like the camry now that theres more pictures
I just don't like the rear
mmarshall 12-02-06, 09:00 PM I like the current American-market version much more. This one, outside, looks too much like a Camry, and the interior looks too much like current Volvos with their big center-stack silver panels.
UberNoob 12-02-06, 09:10 PM i like it a lot
i think the rear lights have quite a bit of resemblances with the 2IS lights
dont like those 2 red lights on the rear bumper though
oh god. another look-alike :egads:
But if it sells, then thats all that really matters to toyota
from that pic above, it looks like LS460 headlights and 2IS fog lights.
One day the Corolla is going to be the size of today's Camry. That is exactly what has happened to the Civic over the years.
Rollin'RX3 12-02-06, 10:44 PM personally i think it looks sweet..id love to have one for a daily driver...
Is it just me or does it look really sad?
Corolla EMO trim.
