Carrot cake mmmmm...... has to be my very favorite! But I'll stick with hot tea instead of some java - my British roots, you see!
Actually, I think we have a lot of new people on the forum. I'm noticing a lot of new names, and I do believe a couple of girls! Hopefully they stick around, and if not, well, those of us that moved over are good enough for me. Hey, we had a lot of traffic on the old ClubLexus!!
I'm going to get more organised next week, and come up with some good threads for this board. My life has just been a little upside down recently, but I'm tying to get back to normal!!
So Manny, how'd you land up in Guam? And what's it like out there?

Well, while I'm running around the message board, you all are chilln' in here. It seems comfortable- I think I'll stay a while! Have any tea left? I shouldn't stay long thought, it is laundry day...I hate laundry!! Soon I will be off for spring break (next week) I'll miss you guys, but will be soaking up the sun...ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Cool - where you headed?
I could do with a few days at the seaside. I love the Outerbanks of North Carolina - So unspoiled and natural. You can rejuvenate yourself in the peace and quiet of the area. Mmmm, think I'm going to make a plan to head out there sometime in the next few months. :)

Speaking of heading out... just had a nice long slow weekend in Asheville NC... ahhh. Finally got to do the Biltmore Estate tour... WOW.
Probably headed back there in July too... no doubt it will be hotter then. My wife's probably going to be in a horse show at the Biltmore! Pretty cool.
OH... that reminds me, as I was walking out of the Biltmore House, I saw about *10* BMW 'M' cars parked neatly, all were Z3Ms or M Coupes, plus an M5. We may own 'Lexuses' but it was still a GREAT sight.

Asheville - That's another really nice town. That's one of the things I love about North Carolina, the diversity. The mountains are beautiful, and so is the coast. Everything one could want all in one state!!!
Never been to Biltmore Estate though, but would really like to do it. I believe they have bowling lanes in the house. I'm a big bowler so I can relate!!!!!

If we are able to, we'll probably head out to St. George Island off the Florida panhandle. It is a great little istland that is only 1mi. wide at the largest point. There are houses there that people rent out and you can either say on the bay-side or the beach-side. Either way, it isn't far to the beach. I need some sun! I like it because there aren't too many people there, and it is not commercialized. Went deep sea fishing there a few years ago with my dad and cought some odd looking fish, including a hammerhead shark! All I really want for my spring break is nice weather - wherever I am.

It is kinda relaxing in here huh? :) I'm just sitting here slurping up some japanese noodles...
LexusLady, I have lived here in Guam most of my life except for two years that I lived in SanFrancisco while going out to college... still not done. Planning to become a doctor of some sort... torn between psychologist, pediatrician, or dentist.
Living out in guam is a very simple life... small community... 300,000 people in a 15x30 mile piece of land. Our economy depends mostly on Japanese tourism... and we are a US Naval Base. It is pretty hot and humid here...similar to hawaii except more hot and humid and no birds... I want to get out of here soon though... go back to SF... Where are you from? I bet it is totally different from what I'm accustomed to...

Michael...
if you like beaches, you'll like Guam... if you like hiking, exploring untouched nature, snorkeling, vegas-style shows, the night-life, shopping (we have no salestax), you'll like Guam. If you like close knit communities and hospitable people, you'll like Guam...Nobody will ever starve here... Homeless can get food at any fiesta (at least one every day!) and our tables are 20-40 feet in length, filled up with the most delicious (but not healthy!!!!) food I have ever tasted in my entire life...It is pretty hot here. We have two seasons, Dry and Rainy... they both overlap whenever they want to... it can be raining twenty feet in front of you and 98 degrees in the shade where you're at...
What sort of business were you supposed to attend to (if you dont mind me asking)... Actually, guam was a very good business center in its heyday around the mid-late 80's and early ninetys... Our economy suffered a big blow when the japanese economy took a nosedive and at the same time coupled with the downsizing of the Navy and Military (which were a huge source of jobs on island)... It seems as though the economy is picking up. Very slowly though. The entertainment business and lodging business (hotel and clubs) are really booming right now. I wanted to get into that but for now, I am studying to become a doctor... My dad owns a business... air-conditioning (necesity here)... but I wanted him to branch out into other services. There are many opportunities here... expecially now when the economy is just ready for another launch...
It is hard to say if there is a lot to do here... I get so bored staying here because I've lived here almost all my life... there are many things I havent done here...many places I havent explored because I have no time or no interest in certain things... I am more of a big city person. guam is not a big city. No skyscrapers and only one over/underpass... no freeways and large highways... But there sure are a lot of Lexuses! Especially the RX. As a matter of fact, we will be taking delivery of an RX this friday... 37.5k fully loaded sans navi, including all registration charges...
Hei, if you do fly out here, email me... I'll send you my number and a couple of my friends and I could tour you around (hopefully)... :)

Sounds like a real cool place. If my aging memory serves me correctly, I saw a documentary on the Discovery Channel once and they were saying something about there being a whole bunch of snakes on the island. Has that been your experience?
I'm from South Africa. Came here in 1991, and haven't regretted a day. Life is much more "peaceful" here, and there is a lot less stress. Oh I suppose if you lived in a city you'd experience a fair amount of "rat race" stress, but where I live it's nice and easy. It took a while to get used to the culture difference. South Africa used to be a british colony, and our way of life is very british. America, however, has tried their darndest to shake off their "britishness", and consequently have a totally unique culture. It was hard to adjust in the beginning, and there are still certain things that I can't adjust to, but for the most part I'm very happy here, and have no intention of ever going back to Africa. In fact, I'm in the process of taking American citizenship. Hopefully by the end of this year it will be final. :)

LexusLady, I'm glad to hear that you like it here in the States. Good luck on your citizenship test! What is involved in gaining citizenship with the test? My mother is from Canada and she moved here after she married my dad and became a citizen. I am proud of her accomplishment. She moved here knowing zero English and picked it up just by living her and barely has a recognizeable accent.
You mentioned not being able to adjust to some things, I'm interesting to know some examples...if you don't mind saying. I suppose I should do some homework now..but it is so nice outside!!! Oh well.

I did the citizenship test in '94. I'm one of those Brits who moved here (in the 80s).
The test wasn't trivial, so study. Like 'what do the colors of the flag stand for?' I bet few people born here know that!

Hey bitkahuna, watch it now. It may be true that many lifelong U.S. citizens do not know what the colors of the American flag stand for, but those same people do love and respect the flag and country. It's like christians who love and believe in God, but don't necessarily know the bible forwards and backwards while there are other bible scholars who can be the most awful people you know. It isn't the knowlege that makes a good citizen, but the attidute.
Still, there are others that don't give a ****** about this country, and that is just plain awful. Different strokes... The meaning of U.S. citizenship goes deeper than knowledge of its history.
Anywho, not trying to argue, just stepped on my toes a little. I hope I didn't upset things.
Here is for LexusLady to help her on her exam.
The thirteen stripes represent the thirteen original colonies. The fifty stars represent the fifty states. Each time a new state was added to The United States a new star was added to the flag. The color white symbolizes purity and innocence. Red symbolizes hardiness and valor. Blue means vigilance, perseverance, and justice. Red, white, and blue symbolize unity.

LexusLady - When are you taking the test? My sister took it last year and passed it easily.I think she still has her study guide that helped her. I can send you a copy if you want. It has all the national questions on there but you would have to dig up the local stuff.
Like who is the mayor of your city? Who is the governor of your state? Real easy stuff.
Well see yaw around.

I believe I was experiencing withdrawals yesterday and this morning! I couldn't get onto the ClubLexus site and had e-mails telling me of relplies to boards that I was subscribed to. I was worried there for a minute. I'm hooked on this site!!! I see the new ClubLexus Logo has made it to the main page. Now maybe we can get some stickers made.
