View Full Version : dealers who stick their names on the car

I've noticed lately a lot of car dealerships stick their names somewhere on the back of every car they sell. For example, Nalley Lexus in Atlanta puts "Nalley" right above the "Lexus" sign (in the same size font).

Anyone else find this really annoying? It's cool when they just put a license plate frame, because that is easily removed. But I'm not sure those dealer signs can be easily taken off.
Anyone here ever told a dealer not to put their name on the car? Do they listen?

I had one of this on my previous lexus.. After a couple of car washes it fell off but itself:D haha must be some cheap two way glue they are using. I am sure it must be hard to removed it.

It is very annoying..

Dealers that do that should be shot. Especially when it comes to luxury cars.

Hair dryer and some goo remover works fine when it does happen.

Make it part of the deal, if they don't do it, walk out. It's your car and you have every right to have what you want on it.

Hey your in GA! Check out www.seloc.net for your local Lexus meet.

I notice Hennessy gives people the license plate advertising their name. Nalley, I also have not seen the sticker, but the license plate.

Ghetto Lexus of South Atlanta, THE WORST Lexus dealer in ALL of GA puts on cheap/tacky gold stickers on their cars.

Even their loaners have cheap LOANER OF SOUTH ATLANTA stickers all over. Avoid them like the plauge.

I rock my Hennessy License plate on the GS (of Gwinnett) the BEST dealer in all of GA!

And YES, it is irritating seeing that cheap sticker crap on a Lexus.:thumbdn: :thumbdn:

I find that practice extremely annoying. As you've stated, the license plate holder is ok as it can be easily removed.

I've purchased cars and on the agreement to purchase I made them mark down that if that thing is on my car when I come to pay and pickup the deal is null and void. I've yet to have an issue come delivery.

I hate that crap too. I'm pleased that JMLexus only does the license frame thing. My G35 had the name of the dealer on the car until I took it off. I won't even say their name because they're already doing enough advertizing on their own.

I told my dealer couple of days ago not to put the front license plate or any of the dealer advertising crap on my car. And he said, fine. They normally don't put front license for KY people anyway. Hope that when I go pick up my car in few weeks that everything is the way I want it. Otherwise.....:nono:

I have a buddy that use this to try and get a little more off the price. not sure how how words it but he tells them to either remove it from the car or pay him for advertising. He says the car is his property and they are using it to advertise their business for free. He will also say "ok how about I come to your house and put a sticker on the side of your home to advertise my business" of course they say you can't do that because it's my home wich comes back to the statement that it's his car needless to say they remove the sticker usually, because the guy will walk if it does not get removed believe it of not.

get over yourselves. The car belongs to the dealer until you buy it. they can do whatever they want with it, and you can either request they remove it, or take it off yourself if you dont like it. and i like how you guys are such e-thugs with the "i tell them to remove it, or i will kick their asses" and all the little stories that you guys talk up, but never do in person.

and if you think this is something new, you are losing your mind.

back in the day (40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and even sometimes in the 80s) Dealers would either drill holes and rivit, or drive screws right into the trunk of the car to affix their dealer plates. you should feel lucky its just a sticker!

They are actually easier to remove than they seem, just use <the force> patience and do it slowly :D

Think this is more of a East Coast thing. Here in California dealers wouldnt even think of doing that!

All they do is just put a lisence plate frame with the dealers name.

I don't see what the big deal is if they did put the sticker on... I personally don't like the dealer stickers. My ride didn't have them, but I would have made sure they took them off before I took the car off the lot.

If a dealer told you "No" to that, then its probably a good sign not stay there any longer

Its corny either way, the paper plates is one thing but molesting a car for free advertising is another. Shows lack of respect for the buyer and makes them look desperate and cheap for attempt of getting there name out there

I remember when I first moved down here and ask a local Toyota dealer here to do an alignment and they tried really hard to put their license plate frame on the back of my RX300 (which has U.S. plates). Turns out Mexican and U.S. plates are different sizes and the frame ended up not working out. I have seen very few dealers down here who do anything other than license plate frames.

I refuse to accept a car that has the dealers logo slapped on it. I dont want it. I'll take a license plate frame but don't put that crap on my car.

I've always told dealers that if they put any dealer ID other than a license plate frame on the car, I won't take it. None have ever given me any grief about it. When I bought my Talon, the car was sitting on the lot with the dealer's sticker already applied. I told the salesman that I wouldn't take the car if they didn't do a perfect job of removing it. When I came to pick up the car, you couldn't even tell that a sticker had ever been there.

Loosen the glue by heating the emblem with a hair dryer, then yank it off.

many states now have laws that do not allow any type of frame around the license plate.

I'd be weary of buying from a dealership that did that sort of thing. It shows a bit about their mentality towards the cars.

That being said, I made the same demands to my dealership and they told me not to worry, they don't do that to any of their cars.

I've never let a dealer put their name on my car. Lauderdale BMW didn't even try, Woodfield Lexus does it on the license plate frame (which doesn't bother me so much). There's a company in the hood, initials MW, that sticks something on every car they sell. Don't think it comes off easy. I'd never buy a car from a dealer that forced me to put their logo on my car (FWIW, probably not much)

Never had it, never will. When they pay me to advertise for them I'll consider it. Dealer plates were the first thing to come off the car as soon as I got home.

I'm going to stop being lazy and buy a chrome license plate frame, and then toss the dealer frame.

thx!

Are you talking about Texas? Their law only limits the size of the plate frame (http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/texasplate.asp). I've never heard of a state that 100% bans plate frames.

Link above is bad it should point to this page (http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/texasplate.asp).

-----------------

The dealer I was going to buy my IS from adds their placard also. I was all geared up to go the full nine rounds with them about it, but they were to busy to sell me a car so I went to another dealer who happens to only apply the plate frames. BTW, I am still constructing my letter to the "Elite" dealership owner as well as Lexus Corporate to complain about the dealer.

It is the old way of advertising and a cheesy way of doing it. As I stated the top Lexus dealers don't do it. The desperate and clueless Lexus dealer does it. Car makers and desperate dealers have to do it. Most know no better.

Even with loaners, with Lexus, you get a simple number on the top, you can't even tell its a loaner. I saw an Infiniti loaner the other day with TRONCOLLI all over the sides as a loaner car and it wasn't even an Infiniti, it was a Mazda 6:sad: :D

If you sold the car the right way and it is an outstanding car, you won't NEED a sticker, the owner will gladly tell where they purchased the car.

Not really. It's true. I grew up in the Midwest where all the dealers had some kind of chrome thing they'd rivet, screw, weld onto the car. Not in California anywhere I've seen ever, and I've been here almost 27 years now.

Only Rallye Lexus in Glen Cove,NY when it comes to Lexus comes to my head in the NYC area does so. Their Acura, BMW and Mercedes-Benz dealers does aswell. Luckily for me Mazda was going to put one of those but the dealer had to pick up my car from a another dealer so when it was time for pickup they didn't put it.

Yeah, it's stupid when they do that. The license frame is no biggie and is pretty much expected. At least people know it's not a part of your car.

Yes it does happen in California. I see "BMW of San Francisco" and "Peter Pan BMW" decals all the time. But at least those are just decals, it sucks double-time when it's a big fat custom dealer emblem.
