Default Why Americans build bad cars

Jeremy Clarkson visits the United States and explains why Why Americans build bad cars. Very entertaining video and is good for a few good laughs at ourselves.

Their cooking across that side of the pond also leaves something to be desired. Apart from a very nice restaurant called Rules in London, I had a hard time finding something edible with regard to British cooking, other than that I like the country.

That's hilarious...because people here in Vegas are really like that. Last year, the local news station took a poll of 100 people in Vegas, and asked them if "Monte Carlo" is an actual place, or a fabricated name for the casino on the strip. Almost 80 percent said it was fabricated for the casino.

Having grown up there a long time ago I'll be the first to admit the food used to suck but that's not the case today.

My last two trips to Britain have exceeded my expectations by a mile and this last trip (this August) to Scotland stunned two couples from here in FL travelling with us - they thought every meal was spectacular.

One thing I will say - airport food in Britain is 10000% better than any airport in the U.S. which universally STINKS.

They are owned by American (which is funny) and German car companies.

That was very funny.... and embarrassing. I cringe at how uneducated so many in the United States are. Most people are woefully ignorant.

Still, it would be interesting to ask Europeans to name as many US states as they could....

Yes, Mike, I know that most of the British auto factories are gone...except for the Jag Coventry plant. My point, though, was that vehicles of British design, whether assembled in Britain or not, still, for the most part have sub-standard quality levels....worse than many vehicles of American design and assembly.

As far as him kissing American a**es, basically I agree, except that for him, MINE would be too easy......it's too big and too obvious a target. We have to find one for him a little smaller and tougher......like yours.

Country's and states are two different things! No one would hardly know the names of the states.........

It's like expecting someone from US to name all the states/provinces in Scandanavia!

I think the start of that video was a great point with all of the awesome military and space technology that the U.S. has that NOBODY else can come close to matching, which blows the "american engineers are stupid" theory right out of the water. The SR-71 will do well in excess of Mach 3 too - that's just its maximum "unclassified" top speed. Back when they were still flying those things, whenever somebody would break a speed record somehow they'd fly the Blackbird just quick enough to beat it so that it'd still be the "fastest" aircraft in the world. That thing will do Mach 3 without breaking a sweat.

As for cars, there are a lot of brilliant engineers in the American auto industry also, but those companies are very poorly managed and they don't allow their engineers any design freedom. They must stick to the corporate formula, and any deviation from that is unacceptable. Only recently has this really changed. You get to see what American automotive engineers are capable of building with cars like the Corvette Z06.
