Just finished watching the show. First time for the show to drive into Canada. The hot laps with Paul Tracy were awesome. Not sure if Lexus liked them pushing the car to 130+, drifting and doing a burnout...but thats the stuff we love to see. Also notice, when John Kendall sits in the back, he DOESNT recline the seat as he is 6'4, someone even 6' or smaller cannot comfortably utlize the ottoman feature. :( Overall one of my favorite Test Drive shows.

They liked the touch screen but failed to mention a lot of functions were locked out during motion.

I agree the tires sucked and the body roll and steering could be improved.

They could have also mentioned the awesome gas mileage with the 8 speed tranny.

Overall, I think it is a beautiful car and would not mind one in my driveway.

I saw it too. Lots of props given but I didn't like the guest driver saying the car didn't have the power of "some other luxury sedans out there." I'm sure he meant the germans. At least the host stated the car reached 0-60 in under 5 seconds. Is it really that fast? How fast does it need to be. It's a luxo barge. A sweet one, too.

I was surprised to see them do burnouts and sliders in the car. That's awesome but not a reason I would want this car. It is for cruizing, styling and profiling.

Seems like Paul Tracy was referring to V12 German competitors, but that will soon be met by the LS600h. Going 130mph on the track and doing burnouts, powerslides certainly does not mean a car is slow or doesn't have enough power. During cornering, the car also remained relatively stable and level.

I actually like Comcast, I get nearly every channel you could imagine where I live...However my Cable/internet provider in Spokane completely sucks...I hate Time Warner Cable.

Finally finished...

Sorry it took so long, even at medium quality the file size was a bit over 200MB so it took a while to upload. It was too big for photobucket or youtube so i'm hosting it out of my personal FTP server, it's got plenty of bandwidth so that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

ftp://bf2.xweb.org

username: clublexus
password: ls460

The file name you're looking for is "LS460 test drive.wmv" the other video's are ones I took when I was at the taste of lexus event last year.

I re-encoded it at a lower quality which came out to under 70MB that i'll upload to youtube shortly for those of you on lower bandwidth connections.

Ramon
01-28-07, 04:27 PM
btw, I couldn't access the video when trying to use IE7, but it worked fine if I just went into "my computer" and typed in the FTP address in there.

No problem.

I was unable to upload the lower quality version to youtube becuase it had a 10 minute limit on the video length and this is 22 minutes long.

One thing interesting that they came to Canada to test out the car.

One thing I love the LS.

I wonder how many Bentley and Rolls Royce owners will trade in their cars for this. So far one dude has done it.

One thing for sure no people who drives a Maybach would trade it in for the Lexus.

Now too take away customers from Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz (be nice too get some of those customers)

Downloaded it, watching...lovely scenery, great expose of the car...and driven in ways almost no LS owner would dream of. :D

Looks cool and sophisticated!!!

Thanks again Ramon for uploading this, its cool things like this that make CL a great place to be part of.:thumbup:

BTW what programs did you use to convert it to WMV and compress it? I just got a DVR, I suppose you have to look at the burned DVD chapter files, convert...then use something like Virtualdub?

I used a Plextor TV100U to connect my DVR to my PC and used Windows Media Encoder to capture/encode the video. It's pretty easy to use but you need a pretty beefy machine to encode the video without dropping frames, prefrably a dual core machine unless the device you use to capture the video has built in hardware encoding. My TV100U does not.

The DVR box I got from my cable company does not have the ability to hook directly to a PC and digitally transfer the media files, so I have to actually play the recorded content back and capture it.

EDIT: hmm, maybe it does, i just saw a couple firewire ports onthe back of it... I'll have to test it one of these days...

Obviously the LS460 was not designed for being pushed to the limits on the track, hence the gnarly body roll. It would have been nicer to see them push an IS or GS. I still have Test Drive's GS450h saved on DVR somewhere when they were at Infineon/Sears Point in NorCal.

I honestly cannot understand why Lexus hasn't sent out Touring models for reviews. Not once have I seen the Touring model reviewed, when they know that these journalists care more about performance than the average consumer, and the car would probably fare better from a print aspect. Perhaps they are trying to make a statement with "the ultimate luxury car" by only offering the ultra luxury models for reviews. None the less, I was expecting to watch the car flop around the track like a fish out of water, and it really didn't do THAT poorly IMO. A touring model would obviously be better with track time, and address the comment about bigger and more attractive stock metal.

Thanks so much for the videos ramon!

Apparently IE7 and firefox are having issues, so just type in the URL in a windows explorer window like "my computer" or something.

have you tried just opening my computer and then put in the ftp link at the top? then it should ask you for login and password. and then you can right click the file and choose "copy to"

that's what i did and it was fine. firefox and ie didn't work

and watched the video, very nice! love the driving part, although some of their conversations were too funny. i mean, why bother talking about how cool the nav is when you are doing performance driving @_@

Yeah,I thought that was interesting, too. They also said Lexus made the best navs hands down. Is that true. I have never even used a nav so I don't know.

Ramon

I've used several differen't nav's from Lexus, Acura, BMW, Mercedes and Infiniti. IMO first place would be a toss up between Lexus and Acura followed by Infiniti, Mercedes and BMW.

I agree for the Nav portion only and while parked. However iDrive is so much more than just Nav and I believe for the iPOD, bluetooth, sat radio, car configuration, etc. iDrive beats them all.

Lexus bluetooth is the worst I have seen in the market. And the touch screen while nice at night, is a fingerprint/glare problem.

I guess all the systems have their benefits and drawbacks.

Ramon
01-29-07, 04:55 PM
I as well as many others who don't like iDrive don't like it becuase of the "so much more" part. It does TOO much for one knob/button that BMW's are far less user friendly than their competition.

There are buttons and voice recognition available too I believe.

Like I said, everything has drawbacks. There is no perfect system. Lexus has glare, loss of use while driving, fingerprints, etc. But the Nav is nice.

Pick your poision. :D I just like to be objective.

I agree, that's one of the things I like better about the Acrua's nav. It's just as easy to use as the Lexus nav, but you can use it while driving, it also has more features then the Lexus nav. Lexus has the touch screen (which I love) and the maps seem to have fewer glitches than Acura's.

I agree. I just would not buy a car based soley on the Nav unless I was a cab driver.

Before long your cell phone will be the Nav unit sending via bluetooth to the car's display. Americans will not continue to pay $2k for a Nav system that is worth about $99. It is a good gimmick for all the manufacturers though and seeing a big touch screen certainly gets more car buyers who cannot look past the dash.
