One thing some of the bids were almost 4x the value of the car.

To those people bidding on the auction for the charity it's not about which car they are bidding on or how much they are paying for it. They already have a set amount that they have decided on to give away, so if someone wishs to donate $250k to the charity it wouldn't make any difference if they were bidding on a LS460 or a case of K Feds latest hits CD.
