The countdown has begun for the model that restored Maserati’s name to glory; according to Quattroruote, the Italian firm will give us a sneak peek of the all-new Coupe next Tuesday, prior to its official debut at the Geneva Show in March. Apart from the name change, perhaps the most significant news is the fact that Maserati has ditched Giugiaro for Pininfarina. What we’re seeing here are early-stage sketches obtained from Pininfarina. We’ll have more on the Coupe’s successor later on the weekend.

The rims are kinda ugly. It looks like they tried to incorporate three Maserati Tridents, which is a cool idea, but with a really nasty result.

Looks like the new car intro embargo-breaking will continue, this time overseas. A couple of weeks before the car is set to debut officially at next month's Geneva Motor Show, here are a few images of Maserati's new GT Coupe. This Pininfarina-styled coupe takes the Quattroporte's styling in a much bolder direction.

The current Coupes have failed to enthuse as much as hoped, although their performance is stellar. As we told you a few days ago, the car should be quite a mover. MotorAuthority is reporting an anticipated (and amazing for a front-engine coupe) 49/51 weight distribution. Rumored to be powered by an upgraded 400 hp 4.2-liter V8, performance should again match the car's promise. As evidenced by the tail lettering, the full GranTurismo name will be used on the new GT. Expect cars on dealer lots by Summer.

And there are rumors of the new GranSport model as well. Featuring an all-new 450 hp 4.7-liter V8 from Alfa Romeo's 8C Competizione, it should better match up against the M6/XKR/DB9 competition. A new Spyder and possibly a Coupe-Convertible with a retractable hardtop should follow some time next year. And of course, this is also the platform that the upcoming entry-level Dino might share when it shows up late this year. That car is still unofficial, but word has it that this baby Ferrari will sell for around 175 large and might not be a Ferrari at all (no Prancing Horse logos, just like the original Dino), just in case there's any backlash. Three slightly larger pics in the gallery.

The mags look pretty nice.

One thing if and when it comes out supposably it be priced near the BMW M6. Which would make it a car that the new Lexus SC would compete against :woot:

If and when they update it with the new 4.6 L or if they drop the 5 L from the IS-F.

Yes, but if they drop in the 4.6 L V8, it'd just compete against the regular 6-series, which has a 4.8 L V8 in it already. The M6 has a 5.0L V-10.

Spied: Maserati GranTurismo On The ‘Ring

Our spy shooter friends at KGP Photography captured Maserati’s new GranTurismo live and in the metal today in Germany. The coupe, almost completely devoid of any camouflage, was headed to testing on the Nürburgring. Only a small amount of tape, blacked-out wheels, and a Robert Plant stunt double throw the dogs off the from the truth. Rightfully so, Maserati is putting in hard work on its new baby.source : windingroad

This car looks really nice. A guy at my gym I used to go to had a red convertable Masserati and it looked nice but did not really look like a sports car and more like a luxury coupe, this one looks more like a sports car and has a more aggressive exotic look. The only thing I don't like is the tail lights which I think should have been flatter and longer and more exotic looking.

Man, that front end is just killer!! Very very nice.

However I'm not feeling the back end or the C-pillar area. All Maseratis have such a weird C-pillar and rear end that I could never like. Maybe if they chop the top off I will like it. :)

IMO this is the nicest looking GT coupe except for the Aston Martin DB9.

The only part im not feeling is the headlight/foglight design.

BTW i love Maseratis.  :p

SPY PHOTOS: New Maserati Spyder

Debut at IAA Frankfurt

While people are still stunned by the beauty of the new Maserati GranTurismo, which debuted at the Geneva car show, the engineers of Maserati are at work with yet another new car on an lonely ice track in northern Sweden.

The new Spyder, based on a shorted platform from the GT, will make its debut in Frankfurt during the IAA in September.

Front end and rear will look the same as the GT, except for some minor changes like the exhaust pipes. Also technically it will be identical to the GT, with its 4.2 litre V8 engine delivering 405 bhp and 6-speed ZF automatic transmission. The Spyder will feature a retractable hardtop, and we can only hope that the roof construction will be as good looking closed as it probably will be when it is open.

It’s surely not easy designing a sporty and good looking CC, especially when you also have to fit in some luggage space, but judging from the GT, we can be sure that Pininfarina is going to be successful with the 2 seater Spyder, too. source : worldcarfans

Maserati Granturismo: $95k puts it head-to-head with Jaguar XKR

Posted on: April 19th, 2007

Maseratis have always been cheaper than people tend to think. When Maserati conducted a research they found out that people thought that Maserati cars were at the price level of a Aston Martin DB9 or a Bentley Continental GT rather than a Jaguar. And while that may be a compliment, people who could afford them were crossing Maseratis off the list thinking they coudn’t. Well now that they know, Maserati has unleashed its new Granturismo that is ready to take on the Jaguar XKR. And at £70k ($95,000) Maserati sits up strong against the Jaguar XKR.

Under the hood the Maserati Granturismo has a 4.2 liter V8 engine that delivers 405 horsepower giving it the ability to do 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 180 mph. And while that may be slighty less than the Jaguar XKR’s 4.2 liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower, who would want a Ford made Jaguar over a Italian Maserati? Plus, with the weight distribution of 49 in the front and 51 in the back, handing is right up to par topped off with big six-piston Brembo brakes.

Just look at it for a second. No really, take a very close look at every angle of the car, the more you look at it the more you see. As the man responsible for the design of the Maserati Granturismo would say “Today, many cars do one thing well. They are either straight and geometric, or sculptural and volumptuous. This car is both.” Guglielmo Caria, chief designer at Pininfarina, who is responsible for the Ferrari 599, faced many challenges making the big Granturismo look sleeker and smaller than it really is. However, looks can be deciving. While most 4-seater coupes have a cramped back seat which is usually used for a shelf rather than seats, the large Maserati Granturismo rear seat provide enough room for a 6-foot man to sit comfortably.

So if you are looking to spend $95k on you’re next car, hold off until the Maserati Granturismo hits dealerships this June.

Price is just right compared to Jaguar, but did they mention how much more it'll cost to insure and to maintain...
