Gojirra99 02-19-07, 10:42 AM ok, so imagine you live in portugal and your moving house. you find a lovely farm house set in a decent plot of land. the place has been empty for 15 years!
whilst exploring your new property you find a large barn in the trees. the door is padlocked shut and its all rusted solid. so you grind the padlock open ......... Pics & the rest HERE (http://mma.tv/tuf/index.cfm?ac=ListMessages&PID=1&TID=991002&FID=2&pc=27)

Nice find for sure.
I'd hate to think of the cost to make them run again. Leno would love these. :)

Faymester 02-20-07, 01:49 AM I too would love to know the story of the previous owner ... so, many, cars!
Did the story say "Barn in the trees" or "sprawling, concrete warehouse with great sunlight"?? :D :p
And Andrew, you change screennames more than most people change underwear!:p
javyLSU 08-10-07, 09:19 AM I don't know if this has been posted before, but I searched and couldn't find it, so here goes...
A NY man retired. He wanted to use his retirement money wisely so it would last, and decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal.
The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15 years; the owner and wife both had died, and there were no heirs. The house was sold to pay taxes. There had been several lookers, but the large barn had steel doors, and they had been welded shut. Nobody wanted to foot to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway, so nobody made an offer on the place.
The NY guy bought it at just over half of the property's worth, moved in, and set about to tear in to the barn - curiosity was killing him. So he and his wife bought a generator, and a couple of grinders, and cut thru the welds. What was in the barn?
Go to www.intuh.net/barnfinds/afa70.htm (http://www.intuh.net/barnfinds/afa70.htm) and start wishing you had bought the place.

bighitbike 08-10-07, 09:30 AM Yea i've seen that before. ridiculous.
cliffud 08-10-07, 09:40 AM that guy has a lot of car washing ahead of him...
Wow! There are a ton of classics there and I'm sure they're worth a pretty penny...that is one property I definitely wish I purchased...
There are indeed a ton of classics in there... but nothing really (at least to my eyes) that would fetch a heap of money. Maybe the forumla cars (if they have some history). But, total, I would say about maybe $1-1.5 Million in cars... and that's really not much considering the AMOUNT of cars in there... Hell of a find nevertheless...
bitkahuna 08-10-07, 10:54 AM Amazing. That's also one freaking HUGE 'barn'. More like aircraft hangar. :D
ElitistK 08-10-07, 11:05 AM i thought i was going to find a toyota 2000gt in there, but nope. Failed.
Jewcano 08-10-07, 11:06 AM So many fun restoration hobbies ahead for him.....what a treasure trove of cars.

It's posted here before, but the link in the previous thread no longer works(content removed), so this is good  :

.
SoCalSC4 08-10-07, 11:59 AM Yeah, nothing really Earth-shattering there, but some intriguing cars
nevertheless. Some of the hulks are so rusted and have so many parts
missing they probably should just go to the crusher.
Now he just needs a couple million bucks to restore them all.
I'd be interested to hear more about why the old dude had all
of these cars. Perhaps he had visions of restoring them himself someday?
hmm, ill take a few of the mercedes, a few porsches , the tvr, and the mini cooper please :). those cars i think just need to be cleaned up a bit and they will be a great sunday cruiser, specially the tvr, looks like the newest car in there
Nextourer 08-11-07, 12:10 PM Some of the interiors look to be in really good shape! It's just dusty on the outside. others have a bit of rust and need more work. Not a bad find but it's more of the sheer number of cars rather than collectibles. Maybe the Elan and the 356 and the old Mercedes. It would take a lifetime to restore all of these (that or a lotta people with lots of time on their hands)
all of them stolen....would explain why there arent too many high end classics
all of them stolen....would explain why there arent too many high end classics
stolen or not, the guy has em now. i wonder if there r any keys for those? be pretty cool if they were all just sitting in the ignitions just asking to be driven
lexusondubs 08-11-07, 04:10 PM wow :egads::egads:
Wasn't this story de-bunked?
pvmike1 08-11-07, 05:14 PM Yup.
http://www.snopes.com/photos/automobiles/barnfind.asp
Yup.
http://www.snopes.com/photos/automobiles/barnfind.asp
The snopes explanation sounds more ludicrous than the actual story. It doesn't really explain why someone would have ALL those cars... especially if the owner was a dealer. Why would he need two Formula racers? The variety of the cars locked up doesn't make much sense in accordance to their explanation. :uh:
iasc300 08-11-07, 07:21 PM fake or not - there are some nice cars in there
PureDrifter 08-11-07, 11:46 PM i want that Seven a few other things :p

javyLSU 08-12-07, 12:22 AM I must have spent about 10 minutes staring at the interior of that white Porsche 356...
