02 WRX w/ 63k miles on it. Clean condition, no mods except de-winged. turbo + AWD = greatest fun I've had in a loong time. Haven't had this much fun since my S2k.
I have no idea where to start modding, but i'll learn to drive the car then worry about that later.
my aunt took my sc3 off my hands, she's loving that now and i'm having too much damn fun in my wrx.
Is it a stick? You didn't say. If so, you may want to have a qualified technician check the clutch and the transmission synchros. Both are potential weak points on early WRX and STi models, particularly if they were driven hard
I have one (WRX wagon) as my daily driver, and hate the car so much. Rattle king. No low end torque. Difficult to shift to 1st gear (manual tranny). Junk stock tires. Weak clutch. Overall I don't think I'm gonna buy another subie ever

the wagon and STi had a decent difference in HP iirc
thats odd though, everybody i know that has any subie (ever) has never had any quality issues with it.
Well, the car has been reliable, so I'm not talking about major quality issue here. I'm nitpicking about the rattle, but then again, coming from driving an LS430, I gues I just have to to live with it (the rattle w/ the Subaru).
Let's just say the car is not quite my type.
I bought it more for practical reasons:
1) it's a wagon, very useful in times when I need to carry many things
2) it's got turbo, fun to rev (although weak in torque)
3) it's AWD, I live in snow belt
4) it doesn't scream "spoiled brat" when driven to work since I'm just an entry level engineer, unlike the Lexus
But anyway, congrats to the original poster and hope you love your Subie better than I love mine.
haha nice pick up, my brother had a Sonic Yellow one until it was flipped and totalled when he was clipped by a drunk driver. Make sure you have that clutch checked out if you are over 60k miles.
forgot i posted this haha its a stick. It does have a bit of a rattle but nothing major. the low end is ok for what it is, everything starts at 3k though with that turbo.
I'll tell ya, i owned 2 lexus cars (98 gs4 and 98 sc3). Great cars mechanically but good god were they boring. Boring to own, drive and just sit in. Even if i really put some cash into modding either of those cars, it still would feel like a modded luxo-boat. i loved the ride feel, hated the drive.
Luckily my wrx already has some yokohamas on it and the handling is being addressed next week (it's ok for now, but already got tokico dspec shocks/tanabe springs, cusco sways and F&R strut braces on their way).
i love it. i love everything about it. Once i get my handling sorted out i'll address power/drivetrain.
No doubt about it, the WRX is a fun to drive car. Mine is an '02 as well and so far it has been bulletproof for 53,000 miles, although the clutch is starting to go out. As you know there is no bottom end and things don't start moving until 3,000 rpm when the turbo wakes up. In many ways the WRX is far more fun to drive than my '06 IS.
BTW, if yours is an '02 someone has changed the badging on the back. The '02's had 'SUBARU' spelt out in chrome letters, with the WRX badge in the lower left. Looks like yours has been debadged and the oval Subaru logo put on instead. No biggie.
Mine is a Blaze Yellow color which was made in only 400 (?) units for the introduction back in 2001. The following year they had a Sonic Yellow, which is too orange for my liking. A few pics:

I am not sure what the stiffness of the springs and shocks is for this combination, but I personally would have done the suspension second, because the power you will be making is one of the factors when choosing the suspension.
Very fun car to drive, provided you don't keep rpms under 3K for long.
Enjoy!
just installed the shocks/springs. gotta take some new pics today. the ride isn't dialed in right now, it's set in the middle of firm/soft. the springs aren't the stiffest but they do the job. i may upgrade to something stiffer once i learn the characteristics of this setup. cusco sways are in and set to max firm. so far it's a pretty good initial feel.
