in & out deals?

if I have a car with a lien on it and I find another car I'd like to buy....for sale from a private owner - can we both go to a dealer and trade my car in at the dealer, assuming we agree on a trade-in price, and theoretically buy the other car from the dealer...for a fee of course.

Why dont you just have him make a check out to the lien holder and the difference to you?

yeh, CARMAX style? I'm trying to avoid paying taxes on the other car, but its not that expensive anyway $9000 @ 6.25% = $562

Ask the other seller to put on the title that he sold the car to you for $500, so this way you will only pay taxes on $500.
