Wow, this comes a surprise! I thought Honda gave up on performance, and the S2000 was to follow NSX, Prelude, Integra and RSX in the near future.

I love the S2000. I hope it looks just as good or better than the current design. I hope Honda didn't go too far out with the model.

This should be interesting. For a moment there, I thought the s2000 was going to die of a horrible death...you know..adding traction control and softening the suspension :D

sounds good. If they can match the power/weight ratio of the Elise while keeping it under 40k then it would be great. I think the price of the current S2000 is a bit expensive, considering how much STis, EVOs, and Zs go for.

Convertibles are more expensive than a solid top for one thing. The interior of the S2000 (albeit much smaller) is much nicer than the STIs and Evos. You're the first person I've heard say the S2000 is a bit expensive at ~$34,000.

Kinda hard to compare those types of cars either.
AWD, four doors, turbo...
Only thing they have in common is that they're 4 bangers and Japanese.

im starting to think Honda is really interested in performance again. The (ugly but) shooting brake concept (they even said they want to resurrect the CRX), Civic Type-R, Legend Maxx, etc. I'm liking the direction they are going :).

Well, rumors of a new CRX have been going around for a while, but highly doubtful. Haven't heard anything about Legend Maxx, but if they make RL with turbo or finally put a V8 into it, it is defenately going to be my next car.

When people shop for a performance vehicle between 30k and 35k, I'm sure they'll look at all of those cars. People don't buy S2000s strictly because it's a convertible, and they also don't buy EVOs and STIs because they're AWD people-movers. It's all about performance. Sure buyers compare them.

Hence when looking at the bang for the buck performance in this sector, S2000 at $34000 is the most expensive in base trim comparisons.

The S2000 was out way before any of those cars were released in the US. Honda isn't going to downgrade a car just so it can play at eye-level. Considering just the fact that the S2000 is built in the same plant as the NSX (take note: HAND ASSEMBLED), the price itself is worth it. Not to mention the superiority of quality in EVERY aspect of the car compared to the others. When you consider the technology and engineering that the S2000 represents, IMO, the S2000 is a bargain, even in its seventh year of production.

That's true the S2000 was out way before other cars were released in the US. And I'm not asking Honda to downgrade a car. Like I have repeated said, I was talking strictly about performance of these cars, not if it's hand built or has the best quality. I never said S2000 was expensive because it's not worth it, I said the S2000 was expensive because performance vehicles in the same price range are providing spectacular performance figures.

You don't think that the STis and EVOs have the technology and engineering to justify their prices and performance?

I see.

I'd like to point out there aren't really any options other than base trim for the S2000.

I've owned a 01 S2000 and sold it last year. IMHO, that car was fast considering it was only a 2.0 I4. It was bone stock except the Eibach springs, Amuse lip, and 18" RH C5 rims. I was busting on crotch rocker left and right from lights to highways. Raced a few 350Zs, got pulled at 1st and 2nd but it would pull out at 3rd and pass them up. The VTEC would put your head back to the seat. Loved the car, drifting was fun on it too. Really looking forward to seeing the number on the new S2000 CR.

Yes. I was referring mostly to EVO's MR trim, which is more expensive than S2000 and the regular EVO XIs.

I find it very hard to believe on busting on crotch rockets with the S2000, unless youre talking about 250 cc sized bikes.

Still my roomates s2000 did a little better against my lowly nissan, then against my friends wrx. He still lost by 2+ car lenghts though. From 60 to 100+

S2000's are definitely not drag cars. My IS350 is easily half a second quicker in the 1/4 mile than my 4.77 equipped '02 S2000.

So basically it was slower than when it was stock...

I'm disappointed by the PR update. I was really expecting an increase in power, not just a bunch of ricer mods. I'm also disappointed that they didn't include some sort of soft top. They should have at least included a manually operated rag top with a plastic rear window...
