Post 9ff trying to break the world speed record

SSC is not the only one trying to beatt Bugatti Veyron’s top speed record. 9ff, the German tuner is also working on a 900 hp mid-engined supercar loosely based on the 911 that is hoped to achieve 254 mph.

The car is currently being assembled at 9ff’s impressive new factory in Dortmund, Germany, in time for the annual Auto Motor und Sport top speed shoot-out at the Nardo test track.

The car, called GT9 is powered by a 4.2-litre flat-six that will produce ’at least 910, possibly 950bhp’ thanks to the advantageous positioning of its twin turbos afforded by the mid-engined layout.

If the GT9 makes 254 mph on the 7.8-mile bowl it will be an impressive achievement – the Bugatti hit its speed on the 5.6-mile straight at VW’s Ehra-Lessien test track.

Huh?? Confused... I thought the speed records are up in the 600-700mph range?? What record is it breaking at 254mph? It doesnt look like a production car like the Veyron and the McLaren are?? I must be missing something...
