I agree with the resale value thing, but why would it hurt the image? I didn't know VW has an image. It is sad that some people are really into the image thing...

Interesting... I have to ask my friend who's the GM for Transocean VW dealer about this...

Toureg has been a tough sell, even here in Mexico where a neighbor of mine got one for about $7,000 USD off, which is like getting the $15,000 USD above off as Mexican dealers rarely give as much money off as U.S. ones.

They should use analogies. Buy a flaming bag of dog poo, get one free.

I think they do this for the cafe thing because its helps offset the average fuel economy for the VW brand.

rabbit tries to get into the economy segment but it has abyssmal mileage for that market segment, everything else completely kills the rabbits mpg

Yugo had image too... and had buy 1 get 2nd one for free deal :D

And WE had to pay for the cost of exporting Yugo's that cheap to US :egads:. They were 2x more expensive here.

The v10 Toureg is great for towing... Perhaps one can tow the free rabbit home? What is the MSRP on the V10? Did not see one in the showroom when I went shopping.. I did not like the v6 variant at all..

It was 2x more expensive, but you got 2... so what are you complaining? ;)

What he meant was that people would now think of VW as an inferior company compared to its competitors, because VW is sucking enough to give out free cars.

so, ONE dealer decided to get rid of their V10 Touareg inventories (they had 2 btw) by offering $15,000 off MSRP or a 'free' rabbit ($15K value), then VW, a company as a whole is now inferior to its competitors

Hey, people could assume anything looking at that ad.

I'm sure if I was a person living in that dealership's area, I'd show pity for VW after looking at that ad.

After showing some sympathy, I would then probably think that VW is biting the dust b/c they're making relatively inferior cars.

But! Since I don't live in that region, and I know this is only one dealership, the ad hasn't tarnished the VW brand in my mind.

It has been tarnished way before the ad :p .

V10 Touareg MSRP is $59,000. Really not worth it if you ask me...

Woah that's the dealer near me! (That's a lousy dealer though)

Test drove the Rabbit before, not a bad small car. Solid, decently built, good torque, nice gearbox. But I'd rather get a Mini.

The Touareg on the other hand is pointless. I mean, besides the fact that paying over $30k for a VW is absurd, the interior is dated and the styling is iffy. Tons of torque though. As JC said: "If the world ever stops spinning and needs a car to get it moving again, this is it."
