Every so often, The Economist (a British political weekly) prints what it calls “The Big Mac Index”. As its title alludes, the index shows the relative dollar value of a McDonald’s hamburger purchased in different countries ‘round the world as a gauge of both living costs and the relative strength of currencies.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, not to be outdone Automobiles de Luxe will now every so often publish what we shall call “The Phantom Index” to gauge the relative cost of Rolls-Royces in other countries. Keep in mind that the following prices (quoted from RR) reflect basic MSRPs and do not include taxes and delivery fees. And exchange rates reflect Wednesday’s (4/25/07) Bloomberg market data.


United States > $333,350
United Kingdom > $440,620 (£219,975)
Eurozone Member-States > $447,342 (€328,000)
Canada > $386,224 (CAD$432,100)
Japan > $350,872 (¥41,650,000)

Intriguing to note that the Eurozone is the priciest market (in currency terms) to purchase a new Phantom and that America is the cheapest.

I saw this earlier today. Its insane here in Canada we pay an extra $50k usd over the actual price in the states. Plus they have a huge mark up on Lexus's here in Canada which is insane.

I am in shock that in Europe they pay even more than the Americans or even us Canadians, which does not make sense at all seeing the car is from there. I just wonder how much they charge in U.A.E
