Toyota FJ Cruiser - 2007 SUV of the Year
Posted on 05.10.2007 04:00 by Simona Alina
2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser won the hearts of the owners and enthusiasts. ReviewCars.com announced the winners of Top 10 Trucks and SUVs of the Year, and Toyota FJ Cruiser topped the list.
"FJ Cruiser is a surprise winner," said Edward Choi, President and Publisher of ReviewCars.com. "Given its fashionably quirky retro look, FJ Cruiser should have appealed to only a small group of people. But its significant off-road capabilities and everyday urban utilities brought a wide range of buyers to consider FJ Cruiser," said Choi.
Consumers especially liked FJ Cruiser’s stocky body, easy to clean interior, exceptional throttle control, off-road capability and comfortable ride. Over half a million consumers’ research and ratings behavior indicated that FJ Cruiser’s scores were not only good, but also consistently good compared to other trucks and SUVs.
Jeep and Honda scored high as well, and they have multiple vehicles in the Top 10 list.
2007 Top 10 Trucks and SUVs of the Year are:
Toyota FJ Cruiser
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Acura MDX
Hyundai Santa Fe
Honda CR-V
Chevrolet Avalanche
Mazda CX-7
GMC Acadia
Jeep Compass
Honda Pilot
Another surprise entry was 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The image of Hyundai as a small and cheap car producer seems to be diminishing. Even though the debate over long-term reliability of their cars lingers on, consumers’ initial satisfaction and reaction to Santa Fe have been extremely positive.
Consumers submit reviews of their own cars or cars they test drove, and they rank each car on Performance, Exterior, Interior and Overall categories. Reviewers also submit pros and cons of each vehicle, and ReviewCars.com’s editors summarize these submissions into top 5 pros and cons.
"Toyota’s brand image of building reliable and usable vehicles continues on with FJ Cruiser. Ford is launching several new crossover SUVs, and they look promising," Choi added.
No 4runner??? They are selling like hot cake too!!!
and half of the suvs on the list are not that good...
maybe it is just based on consumer rating only...
Yeah, no ****. It's a surprise seller. Very little space, horrible sight lines, cheap interior, crappy gas mileage and terrible handling. What more could you ask for? It's the Toyota Vehicross.
Well...once again we get back to that old "image" factor. The FJ may "look" cool with its 1960's styling and hose-it-out interior, but under that it is just a 4-Runner with different skin and interior....its mechanicals certainly don't break any new ground. The FJ does have some paint colors, however, that other vehicles need to adopt....colors like the nice bright blue in the picture, chrome yellow, and bright red. The FJ, unlike the 4Runner, also has that nice two-tone white roof. There is too much (WAY too much) funeral-home stuff in the factory auto-painting buisness...those of you who follow my reviews know I constantly bring that up for many of the vehicles look at.
I still can't believe that thing only gets like 19MPG with an i-4.
Inline-4?? That thing got a 4.0L V6 (and a 6-speed manual option).
A truck with a love/hate design. My older brother loves this thing and will be getting one later this year. I particularly dont care for it as it looks to cartoonish to me, but the Baja package models with the black roof and extra off road equipment looks very mean.
Sat in it at the auto show. First thing I noticed was its incredibly easy entry/exit and that hard plastic interior. Definitely for the person who loves outdoor activities or the one who doesnt give a crap how messy the inside or outside will get (which is why its perfect for my bro!! ).
From reading a bunch of reviews, seems like its a very good off roader as well.
And I ask this once again. Who in the hell is reviewcars!!!??

It's surprising the price people will pay, just to be trendy.
