Default Audi Reports Record Sales for May

AUBURN HILLS, Mich, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi of America, Inc.
announced today record sales for the month of May. Audi sold 8,788 vehicles
during the month, a 23.4% increase over last year's figures. It was the
highest-selling month so far in 2007 and the luxury brand's seventh
straight month of year- over-year gains. To date, Audi has sold 37,922
vehicles in 2007, a 17.0% increase over the previous year.

Dealers reported strong response to the newly-launched Audi TT models
and sales increases for the A4/S4 Cabriolet and Avant models. The Audi Q7
also continued its strong sales performance selling 1,958 units.

"The recent introduction of the all-new 2008 TT Coupe and Roadster,
along with our new marketing campaign, has put Audi on more customers'
lists," said Johan de Nysschen, Executive Vice President of Audi of
America, Inc. "The high-profile nature of our 2008 R8 sports car, A5 and S5
coupes, and TT models have brought a lot of attention to the brand. We
intend to capitalize on this to make 2007 our best sales year ever in
America."

Dealers reported strong consumer response across the country, but
notable floor traffic and sales increases were in the East and Midwest
regions. Several key markets saw drastic increases in sales in May. Boston
(+37.3%), New York (+35.6%), Philadelphia (+28.9%), Cleveland (+57.8%),
Cincinnati (+38.5%), and Chicago (+20.8%) had some of the largest increases
for the month.

Audi also set a new Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales record in May. CPO
sales were up 15.9% with 2,356 vehicles delivered. CPO sales for the year
are also up 7.0% over last year's total with 10,611 sales.

Audi's history in America dates to 1969, when the brand was first
introduced to the U.S. market. Today, a network of over 260 Audi dealers
currently offers a line of premium vehicles that include the Audi A3
compact; the sporty A4 sedan, Avant and Cabriolet models; the high
performance S4 sedan, Avant and Cabriolet models; the high-revving RS 4
sports sedan; the design-leading A6 sedan and Avant; the all-new Audi Q7
performance SUV; the all-aluminum Audi A8; the new V10-powered S6 and S8

Default Edmunds.com Reports True Cost of Incentives for May: Summer Discounting Season Begins

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Edmunds.com, the premier online resource for automotive information, estimated today that the average automotive manufacturer incentive in the U.S. was $2,497 per vehicle sold in May 2007, up $44, or 1.8 percent, from April 2007, and up $123, or 5.18 percent, from May 2006.

Edmunds.com's monthly True Cost of IncentivesSM (TCISM) report takes into account all automakers' various U.S. incentives programs, including subvented interest rates and lease programs, as well as cash rebates to consumers and dealers. To ensure the greatest possible accuracy, Edmunds.com bases its calculations on sales volume, including the mix of vehicle makes and models for each month, as well as on the proportion of vehicles for which each type of incentive was used.

"The summer incentives hike has started. In previous months, we have seen year-over-year declines in incentives spending, but this month the trend reversed," stated Jesse Toprak, Executive Director of Industry Analysis for Edmunds.com. “Automakers typically enjoy the highest sales volumes during the summer months in part because of the generous offers intended to match customers to remaining inventory – and the incentives only get bigger as the end of the current model year approaches.”
According to Edmunds.com, combined incentives spending for domestic manufacturers averaged $3,258 per vehicle sold in May 2007, down from $3,269 in April 2007. From April to May, European automakers increased incentives spending by $483 to $3,510 per vehicle sold; Japanese automakers increased incentives spending by $156 to $1,374 per vehicle sold; and Korean automakers decreased incentives spending by $233 to $1,524 per vehicle sold.

In May, the industry's aggregate incentive spending is estimated to have totaled approximately $3.7 billion, up from $3.3 billion in April. Chrysler, Ford and General Motors spent an aggregate of $2.5 billion, or 67.3 percent of the total; Japanese manufacturers spent $736 million, or 19.9 percent; European manufacturers spent $367 million, or 10 percent; and Korean manufacturers spent $107 million, or 2.9 percent.[CODE]
True Cost of Incentives for the "Big Six" Automakers

April 2007
May 2006

Chrysler Group $4,050 $4,250 $3,668
Ford $3,040 $3,021 $3,209
General Motors $2,963 $2,813 $2,761
Honda $1,399 $1,069 $922
Nissan $2,083 $1,955 $2,553
Toyota $1,140 $1,027 $886 ]/CODE]
Edmunds' AutoObserver.com has learned that this month, Honda broke its company record for incentives spending. “Honda is feeling a lot of competitive pressure. Some of their vehicles are a bit long in the tooth, and a handful compete in segments where generous incentives are essentially demanded. In those cases, the company has little choice. However, Honda’s newer and more fuel-efficient models sell with a fraction of the industry’s average incentive investment on the hood,” commented AutoObserver.com Senior Editor Michelle Krebs.

Among vehicle segments, minivans had the highest average incentives, $3,933 per vehicle sold, followed by luxury cars at $3,832. Sport cars had the lowest average incentives per vehicle sold, $937, followed by compact cars at $1,136. Analysis of incentives expenditures as a percentage of average sticker price for each segment shows minivans averaged the highest, 14.1 percent, followed by large cars at 13 percent of sticker price. Sport cars averaged the lowest, 3.2 percent, followed by luxury sports cars at 4.3 percent of sticker price.

Comparing all brands, in May Mini spent the least, virtually nothing, followed by Scion at $77 per vehicle sold. At the other end of the spectrum, Cadillac spent the most, $7,870, followed by Saab at $5,877 per vehicle sold. Relative to their vehicle prices, Saab and Cadillac spent the most, 17.8 percent and 15.6 percent of sticker price, respectively, while Mini spent essentially nothing and Scion spent just 0.5 percent.

performance of 2007.

The all-new Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX set sales records in May. Edge
sales were 12,701, up 39 percent from April and besting the previous
highest monthly sales of 10,915 in March. Lincoln MKX sales were 3,490, up
20 percent from April and eclipsing the previous best monthly sales of
3,054 (also in March).

"These new crossovers are the right products at the right time," said
Mark Fields, Ford's President of the Americas. "Consumer demand for the
Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX has exceeded our original expectations, so we're
raising the bar. We now expect Ford Edge sales to reach 120,000 this year -
20 percent higher than our original forecast."

The redesigned 2008 model Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner crossovers
also are scoring with consumers. Escape sales were 18,953, up 13 percent
from a year ago, and Mariner sales were 4,395, up 87 percent. Each of these
products posted their third highest sales month ever. In addition, the
Escape and Mariner hybrid models set May sales records. Escape hybrid sales
were 2,680 and Mariner hybrid sales were 534.

In total, Ford crossovers were up 67 percent compared with a year ago
as the company continues to achieve the largest sales increase in the
industry's fastest-growing segment.

Crossovers helped Ford to post a solid retail result in May. Although
retail sales were 3 percent lower than a year ago, May was the best retail
performance for any month this year. The company's total sales (including
sales to fleet customers) were 259,470, down 7 percent. The larger decline
in total sales reflected a planned reduction in sales to daily rental
companies.

Other new and redesigned products contributed to Ford's strong retail
performance in May. Retail sales for the Ford Expedition were higher than a
year ago, and Expedition sales have increased nine months in a row.

The Lincoln brand posted another retail sales increase - its eighth
month in a row of higher retail sales. Lincoln's rebound has resulted from
sales of the new Lincoln MKX crossover, the new Lincoln MKZ sedan and the
redesigned Navigator.

Land Rover dealers reported a 7 percent sales increase in May,
reflecting the addition of the all-new LR2 crossover.

North American Production
In the third quarter 2007, the company plans to produce 640,000
vehicles, essentially equal to the 642,000 vehicles it produced in the same
period a year ago. In the second quarter 2007, the company plans to produce
810,000 vehicles, unchanged from the previous forecast.

Toyota Reports May Sales

TORRANCE, Calif., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS),
U.S.A., Inc., today reported all-time best-ever sales of 269,023 vehicles
for the month, an increase of 9.7 percent over May 2006. The former
all-time best-ever record was 242,675 units in March 2007.

"As fuel prices and consumer confidence rose, the industry saw a move
to passenger cars, with retail business posting sharp gains over a very
challenging April," said Jim Lentz, TMS executive vice president. "Despite
the industry's shift toward passenger cars, Toyota's all-new Tundra hit an
all-time high in May. As for hybrids, the market's appetite continues
unabated, with Prius also establishing an all-time record."

The Toyota Division posted all-time best-ever sales of 237,176, up 10.9
percent over last May. The Lexus Division reported best-ever May sales of
31,847 units, an increase of 2.1 percent.

Toyota Division
Toyota Division passenger cars recorded all-time best-ever sales of
148,327, an increase of 12.7 percent over last May. Passenger car sales
were led by Camry, which posted best-ever May sales of 50,126, up 11.8
percent over the same period last year. Camry Hybrid reported sales of
6,853 units in May. The Prius hybrid gas-electric mid-size sedan posted
all-time best-ever sales of 24,009, an increase of 184.9 percent over May
2006. The Yaris subcompact reported an increase of 30.5 percent, posting
best-ever May sales of 10,949 units. Corolla reported all-time best-ever
sales of 45,238 units, an increase of 4.7 percent over the year-ago month.
