Audi clearly thinks you can have too much of a good thing: the sensational RS4 saloon is now out of production.

The 414bhp V8-powered RS4 was unveiled at the Geneva motor show in 2005, and went on sale in the UK in October of that year.

It has been a big success for Audi – not least with us here at Autocar, who have fallen for its supercar pace and agility.

The saloon was joined in summer 2006 by the RS4 Avant and cabriolet, both of which remain in production for the moment.

Though Audi hasn't admitted as much, RS4 production is being phased out to make way for the forthcoming new RS6.

The RS6 is already in advanced testing. It's believed to use a turbocharged 5.0-litre V10, and is expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

I've seen two RS6 so far in my life. One at the autoshow and one on the road, guy must have bought in the US and brought it over to Canada.

One thing if the next RS6 comes out with the reported V10 500+ hp, I wonder if Lexus will go ahead with the GS-F drop in the LF-A engine *drools*

The RS4 is a blast to drive. The Audi RS line has always been "limited production." The RS4 will make a comeback just like the RS6 has. Perhaps 550 hp will be on tap next time around.

I went on a ride along in one two days ago and that car had me speechless. But as someone else said the fact that the RS6 is coming helps to ease the pain

Is Audi's production capacity that low, having to cease production of a low volume car for another car of even lower volume? That just doesn't make sense. How's the actual sales of the RS4 doing, despite all the raves from the media? Could it be that Audi priced the RS4 out of the market?

You may be onto something here.

12 years ago, in the mid 1990's, several Japanese manufacturers did exactly the same thing with their high-line turbo sports cars...the RX-7, Supra, 300ZX, 3000GT, and Steath ( a 3000 GT clone). These cars got too expensive and the insurance got too high....but, even, after being advised to decontent the cars a little and drop the price, the manufacturers decided to just yank them from the American market instead.

How many cars ARE? :uh:

To be honest, the only car I've ever driven that actually feels like it is worth anywhere near that kind of money is the new LS460.

Exactly, I personally wouldn't get that car for 70k.

I've had the opportunity to drive one. It's a nice car but a bit pricey.

Audi RS6 (video) (http://videos.streetfire.net/video/3b19ce35-5225-4da3-8061-994e00cf26f0.htm)

Supposably the RS6 going under going testing.

you can't even get it for $70k in socal. try $85k.

and for $85k, you can get yourself a nice 997.

With a price of 70k, a price both the M3 and IS-F, and probably the C63 will undercut while all probably being faster...people would probably defect to other choices. Although I love the RS4, it just wasn't an intelligently priced car, nor did it come at the right time. It was introduced at the end of the model cycle of both the M3 and C55, so although it is on par with the current models in 06, in 08 it will be behind the other offerings.

Hallelujah! Audi RS4 Sedan’s Death Greatly Exaggerated

June 19th, 2007 10:19 AM

In direct contrast to recent news stemming from an Autocar report earlier this week that stated Audi’s RS4 sedan has gone out of production, WINDING ROAD has learned that rumors of the sport sedan’s passing have been greatly exaggerated.

Patrick Hespen, Audi’s Media Relations and Motorsport Specialist informs us:

Chris Bokich, my new boss and former A3/A4/A5/RS4 product manager for the US says this is completely untrue. There will be a full build of the 2008 model year RS4 sedan, and production is still continuing. We have stated before that the RS 4 will have a 2-yr model run, 2008 being that second year.

As such, there will be no 2009 model year RS4. Hespen added that RS models have always been exclusive, and that there has never been any overlap between models. This, of course, has us wondering if the much rumored/photographed hot version of the R8 will be called something other than “RS8.” Hespen indicates that “With our growing model lineup, there is the possibility this could change down the road, but that’s the S.O.P. for right now.”
