We've talked about those tongue-in-cheek commercials comparing the Azera to the LS460 and the Sonata to the BMW 5 but this looks like Hyundai is using the recent Motor Trend outcome as serious marketing.
I think its great, its another time a carmaker uses Lexus as the benchmark. Considering the RX is 5 years old and the Hyundai is brand new, that says a lot. I think the Hyundai is a good lil SUV, but its no RX.
Hyundai is doing all it can to get as much attention as possible. If they want to go all out and compare themselves to BMW/Lexus instead of Honda/Toyota, let them do it.

If they succeed, . If they fail, .
isn't that what any car maker is trying to do? The point here is that they now have some of the automotive press which actually rated thier product over the Lexus. Some may scoff but that is quite a feather in the cap for the upstart.

True. But Hyundai is not even targeting Toyota or Honda; they're going for the big boys like Lexus and BMW.
Every car maker is trying to do better than the other. But Toyota competes with Honda/Nissan/GM/Ford, and Lexus competes with BMW/MB/Acura/Audi. I just found it bold that Hyundai would compare themselves to a higher authority.
That's like Lexus trying to compare themselves with Bentley or Aston Martin. (But then again, we've seen the LS's new technology, and have yet to see the LF-A's performance... )
I agree completely. My point is that in this case it's not Hyundai which did the comparison. It's Motor Trend. It's one thing when you, as the automaker, makes the claim. It's something else when a third party does it and even rates your product higher in the comparison.
