Default Toyota To Produce FSC Concept

Looks great for a minivan/wagon IMO. They're gonna sell a ton of them. Good decision on Toyota's part. Now, on to the production of the FT-HS concept...

Japan Report: Toyota To Produce FSC Concept

Back at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota unveiled the FSC, a good-looking wagon-meets-sedan-meets-minivan crossover concept.

The FSC, low and sleek and with a roomy cabin designed to give off a ‘lounge feeling,’ looked sharp and drew a lot of positive comment from rival designers. Thereafter, its future purpose in life remained a mystery.

Japan’s scoop mafia now has the answer. Toyota will launch the FSC in Japan at the end of September as the Mark X Zio, according to reports circulating in Tokyo.

This genre-blending crossover, a Toyota rival of sorts for Europe’s Opel Signum, will come with 2.4-liter four-cylinder and 3.5-liter V-6 powertrains.

Loosely connected to the Camry, it’ll seat either six or seven and comes to market with only minor visual changes from the FSC show car, although the concept’s fabulously futuristic interior has, of course, been toned down.

Absolutely love this concept. I wish they could blow it up a little, and label it 2009 Sienna!

So, it'll be a minivan on an SUV platform? Sorta like the MB R-Class?

Sure looks like one. Hopefully Toyota doesn't go with the flow.

Cool. I liked the FT-SX concept a little more though.

Mark X Zio? So will it use a Camry platform, or will it sit on the RWD platform of the regular Mark X?

Good thing that you're pointing it out. I was confused when I saw the name too. Toyota never gives two models the same "base name" unless they share the same base. So this production FSC is really something special from Toyota, since I don't think they've ever released a minivan/MPV based on a RWD platform before.

Assuming the rumour is true, then it would be foolish for Toyota to use a different platform for a new model under the Mark X name. If this will be the Mark X Zio, then it should be a RWD model. On the other hand, the news story states that the 2.4L I4 will be one of the engines available, and that engine really is never used for RWD Toyota platforms.

A few things in this news story do not make sense, but I guess we will see soon enough what the reality will be.

I think it's pretty nice looking for a van if they stick to this concept design without changing it much
Yes it's still a van to me nomatter what they want to call it ...
