Porsche and VW might topple Toyota
This deal could have what it takes to topple Toyota, i wonder if it will...

MAN is already in talks with Scania and VW Commercial Vehicles over a proposed merger, so it’s not difficult to see the groups join with the carmaking divisions. Wiedeking still sees significant improvement for VW, commenting that the car giant is still not in the same league as Toyota and GM, telling Automotive News reporters that “its cost structures aren’t right yet.”
Porsche’s 31% stake in VW means that Wiedeking will direct the new holding company, and is reported to be currently in talks with VW boss Martin Winterkorn over the development of more joint-projects including hybrid technology and electrical systems.
The tendency for the auto industry, in recent years, to be centered more and more in huge mega-corporations has been disturbing, and it is about time to start reversing directions a little. Saab is a good example....when GM took over and Americanized the Swedish-designed Saabs, the company lost much of its former customer base. Even the 9-2X, which was a rebadged Subaru Impreza (a very solid and reliable car), had little appeal, and was dropped.
Porsche and VW have always been loosely associated with each other anyway. Porsche sports cars were originally developed from rear-engined VW's, and the VW Touraeg and Porsche Cayenne were jointly developed from the same platform (as was the later Audi Q7). A formal deal like this will only make the long-obvious union more official.
