2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK preview

The newly launched model from Audi, the A5, Bmw 3-Series coupe, the second generation of Lexus SC will be a serious competition for Mercedes CLK. The German automaker is planning to fortify the next generation of the CLK with several advanced technologies that are currently on the S-Class, technologies like Presafe II, night vision, Comand II, and the Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control system.


The new generation of th CLK will borrow the design line from its bigger brother, the CLS. The lineup will include 3 versions:

CLK 350 equipped with a V6 engine delivering 272 bhp
CLK 500 equipped with a V8 engine delivering 388 bhp
CLK 63 AMG delivering 503 bhpvia 4wheelsblog, automobile.

I can't wait to see what the IS Coupe will look like.

they really need to bump up the HP rating of their V6 to at least stay competitive with BMW and Lexus 300hp at least.

First off that is a CL that is pshopped on the front, second its CLK 550 not 500 they don't make 500s anymore. I highly doubt the CLK will look like that from the front but I would expect the lines of the CL not the CLS on it. Just expect the under-pinnings to be based off the new C-class.

MB uses the 550 designation for the U.S market as we like to see the #s change with the displacement.

For Europe, the 500 designation remains as it's a status symbol to that market.

Thats strange....I went to Frankfurt about two months ago and I saw a white S550 and the new CL550. IDK but ill check it out when I go back in ten days.

Frankfurt is a show and considering the U.S. is a large market...not surprised they had the 550 designations.

But the models are indeed 500 in Europe.

Yes, they have the 5.5 V8's in the Mercedes in Europe but still call them S500, E500, CLK500 etc. . . . . .

and people say lexus copies mercedes... Lexus called they want their GS front back
