BMW and Audi be afraid! Infiniti is getting serious about its convertible! A 500 hp G37 is on the way. Inspired by the Coupe version unveiled this year at New York Auto Show, the Convertible version will be launched in 2009.
The 2009 G37 Convertible will be inspired by the 2008 Coupe version; this means it will combine the same exhilarating performance, stunning styling and modern, sporty interior of the original Infiniti G Coupe.
Under the hood of the Convertible version we will see a 3.7 liter V6 engine with an output of 330 hp and a peak torque of 269 lbs-ft. The engine will be matted with a a choice of an upgraded electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, downshift rev matching, DS mode and ASC (Adaptive Shift Control) that allows for quicker shifts in sporty driving situations and available genuine magnesium paddle shifters; or a newly revised, lightweight 6-speed manual transmission.
The G37 Convertible will be build on the FM (Front Mid-ship) platform, which has been stiffened 36% from the previous generation, is lower in overall height and has a wider front and rear track width.
Also there are rumors that Infiniti is working on a more powerful version of the G37: an all-wheel drive, twin-turbocharged version that will have an output of 500 hp. This mean that the 2009 G37 will be even more powerful like a GT-R. So, it will reach at least a top speed of 185 mph and the 0 to 60 mph sprint will be made in less than 4 seconds.
Like the Coupe, the Convertible version will be offered in three different versions: standard, Journey and Sport. The most powerful, and of course the most expensive will be the the Sport version. It will feature 19" wheels, Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD), sport-tuned suspension, sport brakes, unique front fascia and side sills, sport-styled seats and steering wheel stitching.
theres no real information behind this except that back in 2005 infiniti was discussing their thoughts with dealers and noting that they were looking at a convertible G35. some took it for gospel and passed it along. obviously that wasnt what was really happening but just like the GT-R Evo mess, one dealer or media company says something and that's it. everyone believes it.
It's pretty obvious this is a pshop, but a convertible is not unimaginable. A TT version of the G37 will NOT happen. Why would you have a g37TT and a GTR coming?
True or not... Both variants are very feasable! Why a super G-coupe u ask? Why not?! A GT-R with more luxury ameneties sounds like a plan to me! Infiniti/Nissan is without question again unleashing some of the hottest vehicle lineups on earth. Kudos!
Not a shocker. How hard is it to create a super G37 when the Nissan branded one (GTR) is exactly the freakin same. I think I'd rather have a GTR.
The GTR and the G37 will be based on separate platforms. Because the GTR will ride on a dedicated platform, it'll be more expensive than a potential TT G37.
A TT G37 sounds like a good idea to me. If they do build it, I doubt it'll have more power than the GTR though. Probably smaller turbos to output about 420 hp.
With the G37 likely to start at around $34,000/$35,000, a TT version would run $43,000/$44,000 maybe (hopefully). That'd make it about the same price as the 335i. It'll absolutely destroy the 335i in performance though.

I honestly think if they decide to build the G37, it has a chance to get the GTR platform. Nissan doesn't to dedicated platforms anymore...it will find a way to leverage the new platform for sure. The cars are about the same size and will probably built in the same factory in Tochigi. If they do build the G37TT with the GTR platform, it will also probably add $10k to cost though.
