View Full Version : Another indication that my next car will be a 997 something
foofighter 07-26-07, 09:11 AM caught this GT3 in the wild this morning on 55/73 fwy junction...this is the stretch of fwy that is famous (at least for me) where you'll see sl55 s65 gallardo etc within a stretch of 1 mile in the OC.
my next car will be a preowned 997 carrera or something like that...it's such a sexy car.

gsrthomas 07-26-07, 09:15 AM Yeah I love the 997 GT3, that car is awesme!
For some reason I think the 997 GT3 looks better than the 997 TT.
foofighter 07-26-07, 09:20 AM i agree...the stance on that thing is so dam agressive
JessePS 07-26-07, 09:27 AM Looks like there is an Aston Martin in your side mirror :)
foofighter 07-26-07, 09:29 AM yes that was the DB9 driving by a cougar...through all the excitment i forgot about the DB9
yeah very nice :) have you seen a black 997 tt all modded as well? i have seen it several times going north on 73 passing 55.
you are right about that stretch of the road, you stay there whole day specially on fridays or weekends, you will be bored with all the exotics, heheh... i work very close to there and man, what a scene!
It's fun hanging in Newport Beach. We used to park ourselves at Cafe Pannani on Coast Highway for a lunch break and just watch the exotics cruise on by.

Yes, GT3 always has lower stance, better wheel fitment for one thing, plus it's just cleaner. The GT3 isn't a turbo, so less venting, etc.
Coco-bun 07-26-07, 01:20 PM what? no pics of the Aston Martin behind you?
DASHOCKER 07-26-07, 01:49 PM Just pick up an older 996 for 35k & get a 997 conversion kit. Hamman has a nice 996 to 997 conversion kit. http://www.worldcarfans.com/7060517.001

bighitbike 07-26-07, 02:28 PM Do you like that M3 converted van too DASHOCKER? Haha :p
DASHOCKER 07-26-07, 02:38 PM Do you like that M3 converted van too DASHOCKER? Haha :pLOL.. that is blastfamy no comparison to this.. Actually, the conversion kit for Porshe is nothing new as there are 911 to 996 conversion kits available. The 996 to 997 conv. kit does not look tacky at all, and many will be suprised with the finished product.
splitfire 07-26-07, 05:04 PM I think the 996 to 997 kit is waste of $$$.. I personally think it is fugly:thumbdn:
foofighter 07-26-07, 09:22 PM i'll pass on the conversion...in 3 years the 997 will have an opportunity to drop a bit
Yang1815 07-27-07, 07:38 AM I like 996 better for some reason.
All nice cars though!
1SICKLEX 07-27-07, 08:27 AM 996 to 997 conversion will get you shot.
I like both, 997 has really grown on me.
I prefer the 997 GT3 to the 996.
I prefer a stock 996 to a stock 997.
DaveGS4 07-27-07, 08:30 AM I'm seriously considering a 997 turbo after I sell my GS. We'd sell my wife's 996 as well and replace both those cars (GS, 996) with the 997. Would still keep our LS430 as our daily and her track car (M3)
I saw one in the local Porsche dealer's showroom that just floored me.

i like the 997 tt over the 996, and the 997s over the 996, but for others i still prefer the 996 a bit more

What about the GT3's & GT2's ? You still prefer the 996 versions ?
I prefer a stock 996 to a stock 997.
Same here!

gt3 i prefer 996. somehow i just can't get over the "funny" front and rear bumper design of the 997
gt2, sorry i missed it. i prefer 997 :D
Gojirra99 07-27-07, 10:31 AM The thing I'm still not fond of on the 996's are the fried eggs headlights :p
DASHOCKER 07-27-07, 10:42 AM Get a $17k 00-01 Porshe Boxster & get the 997 conversion kit for it. You can even slap a 997 motor in it:p Porshe tuner Ruf will make your dreams of having a 997 come true...
RUF offers a 3.8 liter 997 Carrera S Engine Conversion for the Porshe Boxster S. Each conversion includes a crate motor from Porsche, complete RUF exhaust (headers, sport cats, muffler), RUF air intake, RUF tuned 997 ECU, all necessary wiring, hardware and labor.
The RUF 3.8 liter Boxster S conversion will yield 365hp and has the same reliability and maintenance intervals as a RUF 3800S and 997 Carrera.

foofighter 07-27-07, 12:27 PM i prefer the 997's front headlights over the 996 that's what bugs me about the 996...just doesnt look like a P-Car. Not that i would complain if someone gave me a 996 but if i were to buy it would be a 997
splitfire 07-28-07, 12:30 AM The thing I'm still not fond of on the 996's are the fried eggs headlights :p
I kinda like the 996 headlight cause they are diffrent..
http://rbmotoring.com/albums/album156/aaa.jpg
but for interior I prefer 997, I think that was a big improvement..
The thing I'm still not fond of on the 996's are the fried eggs headlights :p
lol, i am the other way, i like how the 996 headlights are shaped differently
The thing I'm still not fond of on the 996's are the fried eggs headlights :pSame here - I can't stand the "fried-egg" look of the 996 headlights.
Any version of the 997 to me is waaaay better than the 996.
Dave, when you sell your car, I got dibs on your wheels. Seriously. :)
