That interior looks really good. Left to be seen the quality of materials.
What I can see of the exterior doesn't appeal to me though.

The shape of the front end looks very similar to the prev. gen Camry.

Not feeling it. In a vehicle, I like to see at least one wow feature/design element or something that sticks out. Seems a rehash of elements from other vehicles.

that is a huge/cluttered steering wheel.

and that early 90s looking wrist watch style center clock kills the whole "up scale luxury" scheme IMO.

I agree with you but this is Hyundai. They will at least in the near future be the "Economy" Luxury car with the Genesis. For a car that will be around $33k and trying to fit in all of the features of the more expensive cars is the feat, not the innovation. Since this is based on their new chassis and FIRST rear-wheel drive, I am very curious to see where Hyundai is headed.

wow.. is that active cruise control I see?

Hmm... i-Drive/MMI/COMAND type system. Would be nice if they offered touch screen but that means the screen has to be closer.

Looks like active cruise control doesn't it?

Not feeling the iPod scroll-wheel style buttons on the steering wheel.

Probably good value, still wouldn't get one though.

I am not sure I like that steering wheel ...

Clean interior (with the exception to the steering wheel), but definately stole a bunch of ideas from BMW for the iDrive-esque toggle, Infiniti for their Nav dash layout, and Playstation for the steering wheel.

Interested in learning more. I want to know how this will turn out...

the dash reminds me of the S-Class somewhat and the exterior especially in that third shot remindes me of the G35 i'll holdoff what I think till they release official pictures.

The exterior will probably be just handsome at best. Hyundai still hasn't quite gotten its styling thing down yet. But their strides in interior design and finish have advanced so far in such a short period of time that it's scary.

Just more Hyundai Haterade here I see. :D

If this car comes out with the same options and size say as an ES350 or Avalon, for $10K less and it's RWD, I think it will do well.

That steering wheel is going to feel weird the way how the wood is not continuous with the leather:uh:

Has anyone else noticed that the center part of the steering wheel is covered with black tape and hiding the badge? Hmmm, something tells me this car is not going to be sold as a "Hyundai" - can we say new upscale division?

On Edit: I noticed on the link to the site, it shows other pics of the steering wheel without the tape over it. That badge is definitely not the Hyundai badge.. hmmm

Well to be honest who has done something original in the entry luxury segment? I would say no one. BMW, MB, Lexus showed nothing innovative in terms of interior design either (if that is what you referred to).

I think Hyundai needs to blend in and be accepted before they do anything original or eccentric.

Isn't that how it is with Infiniti and the Cadillac Escalade?

Hyundai has already stated this will be a HYundai. Yjey have not made a decision on a sperate line for a upsacale brand or a brand to compete with Scion.

Really? That's not what I've been reading. I looked at the wording pretty carefully - yes, it's a Hyundai concept, but then again so was the Nissan Fuga (which became the Infiniti M), so that doesn't really mean a thing. No where in the press releases did it state this car was going to be branded a Hyundai.

Judging by now they are trying to go for the "Lexus" look. Most may be suprised if this vehicle resembles the front of LS or IS

Hmm... I see plenty of innovation.

Even though generally criticized, the big German 3 (BMW, MB, Audi) have 'innovated' the iDrive, COMAND, MMI interfaces.

BMW did away with the auto shift lever and went to the little stalk (GREAT MOVE, complete waste of space in a large luxury sedan).

The Lexus LS ottoman in the segment is unique.

Lots of unique lighting touches in all of them.

I think Hyundai needs to blend in and be accepted before they do anything original or eccentric.

I think you're right there.

Hyundai execs have stated on numerous occasions in public that this model is a Hyundai brand. A dealer I know has told me as much. Dealers have supported Hyundai starting a new brand , seperate from the Hyundai brand, to launch their luxury cars. They all want to follow the Lexus model, as most dealers also have Toyota and Lexus brands and realize the potential.

Websites are not the most current/correct source for information, esp regarding a corporate stategy.

Use some common sense. This brand will be released in the US in early 2008 (fall 2007 in Korea) and Hyundai has not registered a new name, nor signed up dealers for a new brand, etc. They would need six months to build showrooms (and that doesn't account for land acq and permitting), assuming everything else was complete. And the Execs have stated with a new luxury brand that they would need seperate and unique showrooms.

Do a google search. This model is referred as a Hyundai in each article. If this was a new brand 6 months out from intro, the model would use the new brand name to draw attention to the brand. The same as Lexus and Infiniti di prior to their launch.

This model will be a Hyundai.

Then they will fail miserably. Nobody in this country is going to spend over 30k for a "Hyundai". Doesn't matter how "nice" it is or how "well" it performs. When you have the money to spend 30 plus thousand on a new car, you're not entering Hyundai showrooms.

I assume when you say "This brand will be released in the US in early 2008", you meant to say this "car". Anyhoo, unlike yourself, I don't have friends who are dealers that work for Hyundai (as if the dealers know anything anyway), but sure I'll take your word for it.

So great, the Genesis will be branded a Hyundai - I wish them luck with it. They will need it.

Unfortunately, those headlights (judging from the exposed lenses) won't be as unique and innovative as the concepts (below). I love the concept's headlights!

Does anyone know what the base price of a Genesis will be? I keep hearing $30K, but the Azera is a $30K car. They'll need some price separation between the two. Which means the Genesis will have to be mid-$30's or lower the price of the Azera. Any info is appreciated.

Apparently it will be in between the GS/5 series/E class and LS/7 series/S class in size, RWD, V8 and priced at IS/3 series/C class levels.

Considering that Hyundai has upped its reliability considerably, what's not to like?:thumbup::thumbup:

Even if not 'perfectly' executed, it still looks like a huge leap forward for Hyundai.

I think many here look down on it because of the brand name and the junk they originally produced. Hyundai seems to be fully intent on moving upmarket from their position today, using Kia (their subsidiary) to carry the econo market. I see nothing standing in their way except time.

That interior has a real cheap look to it.

It looks like an attempt to copy a Benz interior gone terribly wrong...

It's not going to happen. 10K less than ES350 is 23K, and the Azera already costs 24K base price so it's impossible. Hyundai has confirmed the Genesis will be it's most expensive sedan. Expect a base price of 27-32K. And I would not expect the standard features to match the ES350.

Korean insiders are saying what you see is fake wood.

Hyundai has been really struggling with sales. US sales have been flat for over a year now, and China sales are actually down.

Depending on specs and pricing, the Genesis might do well or it might end up like the Azera has: just another average Hyundai.

I've always thought that it's suprising their sales are flat. It seems they have competitive, nice looking cars and SUV's with great warranties. Just shows that it takes some time for consumers to change their perception of the brand. The Azera is a good example of unmet expectations. It does make you wonder how an even more expensive, upmarket Genesis will fare. VW has been trying to go upmarket in the U.S. for years with not much success.

Here's the problem; their cars are competitive, but are they class leading? To change perceptions, you need class leading vehicles to make people take notice of your brand. As it stands right now, Hyundai has some very competitive vehicles, but none that are actually class-leading.

If people are happy with their Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans, why would they suddenly switch to Hyundai? The American brands have the most to worry about because their owner satisfaction rates are not that great, and their vehicles as a whole not as competitive as the Japanese.

Good points. Hyundai hasn't been innovative at all. They've done a good job of copying the successful styling and features of other brands, but haven't done anything innovative from an engineering or styling standpoint. Maybe that will be next?
