Audi will not unveil the A1 in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but in October at the Tokyo Motor Show, alongside with a hybrid version. The basic version of the A1 will be priced at 20.000 euro.
Audi wants to build between 80.000 and 100.000 units a year and take all the customers of Mini.
The A1 will not be a lot smaller than the A3, but it will consistently cheaper with prices ranging between $16,000-20,000. The cost reduction can be achieved due to the use of the VW Golf IV platform with a semi-rigid rear axle, a lot cheaper than the multi-link. In addition, the body will be made from steel, not aluminum, as used in the A2, further reducing production costs.
This should be a VW, not an Audi. Hey Lexus, if you want to be the world sales champ, just rebadge some Scions, Yaris's and Corollas and you can beat the A1, A2, 1 series, etc. lol
So, it's a convertible VW Golf with leather seats? I know it can handle well, but hopefully, it doesn't cheapen the Audi brand if they want to be in the same level as MB and BMW...
First off, the A1 IMHO is too downmarket to have as an Audi model, or as a model for any luxury brand for that matter. Word is that Benz has cancelled the new A-Class, which is nice to hear. I hope Audi follows suit. I also hope BMW changes it's mind about it's 1 Series. All of these models are too downmarket for a true luxury brand.
And why unveil at the Tokyo show, of ALL places? This car will easily be overshadowed by the big premieres there from the Japanese makers. The Frankfurt show would have been a better bet IMO.
i think its cute, and i like it ... i think there there SHOULD be small luxury cars ... if you live in a big city, small cars can be very conveniant for parking purposes, gas, road manuvering, etc etc. this way, if you want a smaller car but u still want all the lux features of the bigger cars in the same line up, you can
So will the 2.0T FSI the engine of choice, along with CVT trans??
then 20000 euro is not bad of a price.
and at least it looks much better than 1 series from BMW.

There is nothing wrong with small luxury cars IMO, but the problem is that cars like the the A-Class and 1 Series have downmarket interiors, downmarket features, and sometimes sub-par powertrains. An Audi TT is somewhat small, as is a Benz SLK but they certainly aren't downmarket.
If the Audi A1 has a great interior and great features than it may make sense.
