Bit has done that in the past. It was kinda like a contest. I think I like this because sometimes you have a pic you'd like to show off that just doesn't really fit a theme but it's not necessarily worthy of an entire thread by itself.
skribblez 08-04-07, 04:08 AM Just recently.

Thanks, we may try again at some point, and you can find the threads for the several 'assignments' we did before, but for now this is getting more pics posted which is good.

Now that's a beautiful shot. My only comment is to crop some off the left maybe enough to remove the dark door at the top, and then maybe a little off the right might be required to balance it out.

Sweet! Which 50?
RaynArt 08-15-07, 01:32 PM the 1.8 (canon). when i get used to it id have to come back here and ask some questions as to what else to get :)
whoster 08-15-07, 01:49 PM i think the 50mm prime is the first foray into a bad disease called "big-aperture disease"
seriously.
Congrats, raynart. I definitely agree with Whoster. I think almost every photographer has / has once had the 50 1.8 in their camera bag.
I sold my 50 1.8 a little while ago, but I miss having a fast prime at that focal length. So I bought a Super-Takumar 50 1.4 M42 mount yesterday. It should be here maybe by the end of the week.
RaynArt 08-15-07, 02:17 PM yea i can agree with that "big-aperture disease" as you put it. kinda like the big super street angle shots, least thats what i call it.
but hopefully ill still be able to have variations in my shots and not just ALL big aperture.
skribblez 08-15-07, 03:09 PM Lol Whoster. So true man.. I'm about ready to get rid of my 50mm f/1.8, I rarely use it now.

The second picture is trippin me out. The truck driver is on the wrong side because the signs are facing you. You guys must be stationary because the shutter speed is 1/125 and there's no motion blur.:uh:
caymandive 08-18-07, 08:07 PM Cool pictures. I would have liked to see maybe a wider shot on the cannon picture.

Haha no, we were actually traveling about 60mph. The big truck was being towed by another truck and facing my direction. I thought it was pretty weird looking and deserved a picture.
You are right about the first picture needing a bit more of a wider shot, but my lens just doesn't allow.
bitkahuna 08-18-07, 10:58 PM One of my favorite fireworks pics from Aug 11th. This was shot with the Canon Mark III, ISO 3200, 1/500th of a second, f/3.2 with the 85mm f/1.2L EF II lens, hand held.
YES, ISO 3200.
GREAT pic!!!

Wow, I have never been motion sick in my life, but this pic definately comes close to puting me there. The longer you look at it, the more blurry, and the bigger the headache gets. If this was on purpose, job well done. Nice shot, just needs to be a little more clear.
Overall, loving the shots everyone. The Awwww factor is definately in effect here.

Stupid Question: Does it autofocus with D40?
skribblez 08-20-07, 05:31 PM Stupid Question: Does it autofocus with D40?
No it doesn't. It's an AF lens, not an AF-S. So this is what I deal with everyday, manual focus.

Nice work out for your fingers then. I love everything about my D40 other than it doesn't auto focus with my Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR lens.
skribblez 08-20-07, 05:40 PM Yeah, with the D40, you might wanna stay away with the third party lens. Unless they came up with AF-S lenses. Everything that I had in my arsenal was all made by Nikon. But sold both my 18-55 and my 50mm, all I have left is my freaking 10.5 Fisheye lens.

Digging through some older pics. Each April, this club pulls into Solvang and it times with our vacations there. I just love these little guys. :)

Due to the proximity distortions: adjusted the front end using perspective control then in the resize/resample, elongated it about 2%. Shadows were a bit blocked up so it's bumped 5% lighter just to bring out a bit more detail in the front fender well and tire. Couldn't do much with the back without a mask and since this is a casual shot, no need.
Used the regular Canon conversion and this was set to landscape mode so it has a slight nudge in color saturation. That's it. Lots of compression so the IQ has gone down.

I couldn't resist the challenge: :)
The people turned invisible, slight adjust of perspective and a nudge on contrast. Not purrfect though a bit more would have it. :) Wife used to ask me if I wanted to wait for people to clear a scene...now I clone them out. Love that aspect of digital capture. :)
looks good! how did you do that?
I used the clone brush/tool in the editor. There is enough symmetry that cloning the posts and windows were pretty easy. Taking open areas of the sidewalk, street, building, cloning people out was the next step. Because there is a slight grade as distance reduces the size, one has to do some manual re-touching to keep the perspective correct. Mine is not completely accurate which is why I enjoy the challenge of doing this, to learn.
The editors of today offer such complexity, I barley use a fraction of what they are capable.
Books I reference for learning new techniques are Scott Kelby's.

While most these relate to Adobe's Photoshop line, I adapt them to Corel's image editor, Photo Paint. What I cannot do in that, I use Photoshop Elements.
I felt like trying a little bit of product photography because I've never done it before. Here are my attempts:

This is on the North Side....and one of the reasons why I bought a NEW WRX TR so I can actually not trash the SC300 in order to enjoy these hiking spots....
The official name is Barret Spur (7000' roughly...I was pretty beatup/worn down that day!)...for those in the Portland Area, I recommend checking out: www.portlandhikers.com
I post on there a bit...great resource for those looking for a good place to hike!
