The car everyone has been waiting for since seeing Casino Royale is finally here. Aston Martin has taken the wraps off the stunning DBS coupe, revealing a car that exudes performance and power yet still has the same proportions that made the DB9 one of the most beautiful cars in the world. The DBS will be officially unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance this week and will go on sale in Q1 2008.

Under the hood you’ll find the same venerable 6.0L V12 engine found in the DB9 but with a number of modifications. These include a ‘by-pass’ engine air intake port that opens above 5500rpm to allow more air into the engine, and re-profiled air inlet ports that further improve airflow into the combustion chamber. Mated to the engine is a six-speed manual gearbox – no “softcore” auto for the DBS, thank you. The result is a power output of 380kW (510hp) and peak torque of 420 lb.ft (570Nm). In addition, Aston Martin’s extensive use of carbon fibre has reduced the weight of the DBS to 1695kg, around 65kg less than the equivalent manual DB9.

How does it perform? Glad you asked. The DBS will hit 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds and keep pulling all the way to a 191mph (302km/h) top speed, making it a true supercar.

Everyone knows that power without control is nothing, which is why Aston Martin has pulled all the stops to make the DBS excel around the track. It’s the first Aston to be fitted with carbon ceramic brakes, greatly reducing stopping distances and providing excellent resistance to fade. Also new is an Adaptive Damping System with five different settings to adjust the car’s ride and handling characteristics. Providing contact with the road are 295 size 20” Pirelli tyres in the rear.

Wow...DBS vs R8 vs LF-A:thumbup:

R8 doesn't cut it. It only has ~400 hp.

It would have to be between the LF-A, DBS, and the RS8...

Gojirra99
08-16-07, 10:39 AM
The V10 version of the R8 would be better.
I still prefer the looks of the Aston though, although I think the R8 looks awesome.

Then again, this is probably going to cost 200k+; the R8 is half the price.

That said, this car looks beautiful. I can't believe they kept the interior from the concept in tact!

Just heard that it will cost about $265,000 US. That's almost 100k more than a normal DB9.

That said, those real life pictures make this car look just MEAN. If I had 265k to spend on a car... this would probably be at the top of my list!

Aston Martin DBS

Power comes from the heavily revised hand made 6.0 V12 engine from the DBR9 racing car thats been tuned to deliver 510 bhp at 6500rpm and 420 lb ft of torque at 5750rpm. The V12 powerplant features a new by-pass air intake port that opens above 5500rpm to boost engine breathing as well as re-profiled air inlet ports that further improve airflow into the combustion chamber. A curb weight of 3750 pounds (1695kg), combined with the 510 bhp V12 help the DBS accelerate 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 191 mph.

The DBS is fitted with new vented carbon ceramic brakes discs - a first for a road-going Aston Martin, it which reduces unsprung weight by 12.5kg. The front wheels are fitted with 398mm diameter carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers, with 360mm diameter brakes with four-piston calipers at the rear. The double wishbone alloy suspension features an adaptive damper controlled suspension which uses two separate valves to set the dampers to five different positions, allowing instant adjustment of the car’s ride and handling characteristics.

Also included is a new hand finished interior with black lacquer, brushed alloy, semi-aniline leather and Alcantara as some of the materials. The car comes with a six speed manual transmission standard and is expected to retail for approximatly $265,000 USD. Sales are expected to start in spring of 2008.

"Thank you sir... May I have another!"
