A new BMW prototype has hit the roads in Munich, and it appears to be the first full-fledged tester for BMW’s long-rumored V-series. The car’s radically sloping backlight is pure hatchback, as it leaves no room for a proper trunk lid. The side window profile appears to slope downward similar to the X6, but the overall roofline arc is taller, allowing for more headroom in back, and the rear hatch looks more cargo-friendly.
Earlier reports pegged the V5 as BMW’s answer to the Mercedes R- class, but BMW’s take on the genre appears less van-like. Given the R-class’ lukewarm market reception, the more car-like approach seen on this prototype seems better-suited to BMW’s values, and should yield the expected driving dynamics.
BMW's latest model has been caught for the second time this week in Munich undergoing initial road tests. Still heavily disguised, the BMW V series will be taking on the Mercedes R-Class which has not been met with great enthusiasm. BMW seems to have drawn their own conclusion from Mercedes' experience and have designed not so much a van-like car but rather a sportier and more luxurious middle class family hatchback.
The newcomer is based on the future 5 series platform which allows BMW to spread both production and development costs. Currently the project name is V-Series, but we expect a more fitting title for the car by the time it will make its first curtain call by the end of next year. Power is expected to come from 3.0 liter six-cylinder engines delivering 272 hp (petrol), 286 hp (twinturbo diesel) and 231 hp (turbo diesel). A top of the line model could be powered by the future direct-injection V8 delivering 420 hp.
Wow, I feel sorry for those 3rd row passengers
Not only will you have to amputate the legs to sit, but you also need to be an osteoporotic humpback
If this vehicle is anything like the X series, the rear seats will be positioned lower within the cabin, thus allowing more headroom for those in back.

I'm sure we've all seen the R class, but the slanting roof line of this V class is sure taking away alot of the headroom. Don't know how low the seat is going to be positioned.
