“I can’t lose with 22s,” hip-hop MC Ludacris declared in verse two years ago, and it looks like he was on the forefront of a trend. SEMA research shows that 22 inches is now the most popular wheel diameter among urban-lifestyle enthusiasts. Of nearly 1,800 responses from a recent SEMA survey on the urban-lifestyle market, 21% said they have purchased, or plan to purchase, 22-inch wheels.

Twenty-inch wheels still hold sway with 16% of enthusiasts surveyed, and 24-inch wheels round out the top three, with 12.5% preferring them.

Wheels were also the overwhelming favorite product category, with 77% of respondents having purchased them. Alarm systems, perhaps not surprisingly, followed (56.5%), then wash/wax/polishing products (54.6%), window tint/lamination (52.1%) and finally exhaust kits (pipe, tip and muffler), the first nod to performance upgrades among this segment at 45.2%

You can read more of the Urban-Lifestyle Market Update, produced by SEMA Market Research, in the July 2007 issue of SEMA News. Additionally, SEMA members can receive complimentary copies of various market reports as another benefit to being a SEMA member by visiting www.sema.org/research.

lol hehe that's funny.

Yeah for some people, they don't quite think of undesired consequences.

Some cars can look good with larger wheels, some don't. Some need major cutting and rolling of fenders, some don't.

I say fill out the wheel well and drop it. Think if you took a Civic and slammed it with stock 14's. It has small wheel gap but it doesn't fit the shape of the wheel arch. Or if you were to stick 24's on a Civic, you'd have to lift the thing and cut out the entire fender to make it fit. Balance is key here. People riding on 40s and on jacked suspension look like idiots to me. The only time I would like to see oversize wheels is on an off-road vehicle.

I'm only using a Civic as example because most people know what they look like and how ridiculous huge rims look on a small car.

I agree. IMO, it all depends on the overall size of the car and the size of it's wheels wells.

Anything less than 20's are a waste of time :D

Even Honda Accords now come with 19'' wheels...

I guess that's why you have those nice 19s on your GS? :uh:

Once I got 19's I realized that 20's would've been better :(

Meanwhile im thinking about putting 16's on my GS, replacing the 17's. I hate low profile tires with a passion.
