Toyota Recalls 55,000 Floor Mats (http://www.leftlanenews.com/toyota-recalls-55000-floor-mats.html)
Toyota has recalled 55,000 floor mats as a result of a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. The recall — which includes 30,500 mats in the Lexus ES 350 and 24,500 mats in the Toyota Camry — is due to several complaints filed earlier this year that some Toyota models accelerated unintentionally.

The NHSTA investigation found that the unintentional acceleration was due to improperly installed all-weather floor mats sticking underneath the accelerator pedal, causing the pedal to become lodged.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the NHSTA has also received similar complaints for several other Toyota vehicles including the Prius, Avalon, RAV 4 and Tacoma. “We have also received complaints about the RAV 4 and Tacoma,” said Rae Tyson, a spokesman for NHTSA. “We will continue to monitor all of the other Toyota vehicles not involved in the recall."

Toyota will notify owners next month and will begin replacing the mats in November. Earlier this year, Toyota mailed a warning of the unintended acceleration to all owners.

I've had my ES350 for nearly 17 months with no problem. I always remove the carpeted mats, before installing the all-weathers, and always use the floor anchors. It'll be interesting to see what the recall involves. Maybe they'll stick a big yellow and black warning label on the drivers side mat!!

No recall for transmission flare. Not hearing too much about it these days.

Audi has a FEW problems caused by the pedals being closer than domestic cars causing some people who didn't drive Audis often to mash the gas pedal when they meant the brake and run over people and destroy property, etc. :egads:

Then 60 Minutes did the worst journalistic hit piece in history claiming the cars just accelerated all by themselves, and pretty much wiped Audi off the U.S. market for MANY years. It's not clear to me why Audi didn't sue CBS out of existence. :uh:
