On that note, I wonder what the UR series of engines will be capable of?
.Sorry, but not just ANY engine can make over 1000HP on the stock block and using stock cams. Many engines will simply blow up.
The article did not mention any engine problems during the high speed run; only a gearbox problem, which is a Dodge Viper gearbox.
Even the Veyron has quite a few engine reliability problems, and that is a stock factory car.
Fact is, achieving 1000+HP on the stock block and stock cams is very challenging for any engine.
The fact that the car looks to have a street setup in the article, and the fact that no engine problems were mentioned likely means this engine DOES run reliably.
Think about it; if the engine wasn't reliable, then the owner/builder would NOT be running the stock block and stock cams.

I'd imagine that the UR blocks would be capable of quite a bit more for a decade and a half long advantage in metallurgy and design practices.

They likely *are* capable of more, but I'm curious as to how much. Toyota developed the UR engines in parallel with it's F1 engine program, so Toyota used much more racing expertise and knowledge when developing the UR blocks than compared to the UZ blocks. For instance, the UR blocks use more forged internals than the UZ blocks ever did. I can already imagine the potential of the UR engine, especially considering what Toyota is doing with the 2UR for the IS-F, complete with titanium valves.
