What other car models have this technology besides the Lexus models? Do Honda motors have DFI too? Most Chevy cars and trucks have SFI. What are the benefits of each one? Which is better? DFI vs SFI, or others.

DI is such a great technology. I wish more automakers would catch on to this.

GS350 is more powerful and fuel efficient than the ES350. And its heavier. Fantastic.

The CTS is pretty darn heavy at 3800 lbs. Its regular 3.6L is rated for 263 hp, 253 tq and gets 17 mpg city, 26 hwy. Not bad. However, the DI version achieves the same fuel economy while putting out 304 hp and 273 hp.

When I first head of direct injection, I thought it would use more gas but according to Lexus, they say it actually "improves" gas efficiency. That's to my surprise. The new 08 Chevy Malibu uses SFI. You would think car manufacturers know better and equip cars with DFI instead for more power.

Honda Civic Hybrid (both gen) have DFI and lean burn engines. That's the "cheapest" car I can think of that has DFI.

Not bad for the Civic. You would think that the compact sports cars would also use DFI too like the Evo, STI, SRT-4.

So Lexus still has the advantage towards most other car manufacturers. What about Toyota? Do some of their cars come equipped with DFI?

Toyota primarily reserves direct injection for Lexus models. All of the Lexus cars except the IS250, SC430 and ES350 use D4-S which is a combination of direct and sequential (port) injection. The SC430 and ES350 use SFI, while the IS250 simply uses a D4 (direct injection) system.

Currently, no Toyota-brand vehicles in North America have direct injection. In Europe though, any Toyota diesel engine has direct injection, just like Honda's diesel variants in Europe.

Honda has extremely limited gasoline direct injection experience though. At the moment, AFAIK no production Honda vehicles have gasoline direct injection.

Some Toyota vehicles in Japan do use gasoline direct injection, but overall Toyota is mainly reserving direct injection for Lexus, mainly due to cost reasons and also to maintain some exclusivity over Toyota vehicles.

Audi, Mitsubishi both have DFI systems. Mitsubishi in fact was a pioneer in this area

incorrect, Mitu is one of the main leaders in Direct FI applications, having used it back in a 4g69 engine back in 1996 (only available for jdm market though). The main issue was the catalyst when burning at such leaner A/F. Other prominent implementation now includes Mazdas 2.3L DISI Turbo MZ engines prevalent in the Mazdaspeed 3/6/cx-7 cars/suvs and now GM's Skystice droptops...

Edit: Found a 2004 brochure. Yeah, I see where I screwed up >.<. My mistake. It's MSFI. It's the ignition that's different. Called "intelligent dual & sequential ignition or i-DSI" as opposed to "direct electronic" as listed for the regular Civics
