View Full Version : Where do you buy your gas? LexusIS-TL 10-17-07, 08:25 PM What is the best place to get gas? Are there potential difference between Shell V-Power vs. Chevron w/ Techron? skyraven4 10-17-07, 08:26 PM shell! even hear a happier sound from my engine :] VikH 10-17-07, 08:26 PM Usually BP or Mobil. LexusIS-TL 10-17-07, 08:27 PM I hear that the V-Power used in Shell has a high concetration of ethanol which is bad for the seals, like it tends to dry it up quicker or something. I heard it from a car meet I went to a few weeks back. Well, more like overheard. But because of the ethanol, the gas is more potent. Kurtz 10-17-07, 08:41 PM Ethanol makes gas -less- potent. It contains less energy than gasoline, that's why your mileage goes down when you use it. But by and large you will notice no difference between any major brand of gasoline of the same octane and same fuel content (ie 2 majors that are both E10 or that use none at all). 350ripper 10-17-07, 08:43 PM i use valero dAiLL3sT 10-17-07, 08:55 PM Mobil for me o.o is4fsr 10-17-07, 09:41 PM Chevron here. maxnix 10-17-07, 10:08 PM Tier 1 Premium at the pump from a new station that sells in volume. Less chance for contaminants, including condensation. Chevron is my preferred brand. Avoid ethanol whenever possible. Perfection 10-17-07, 10:10 PM Chevron w/ Techron is what I usually use, or Shell V-Power Zanorath 10-17-07, 10:17 PM Exactly the same as the above poster, all but 2 times I've used Chevron w/Techron, the other 2 were Shell's premium. 350PsDMeuP 10-17-07, 10:24 PM i usually use Shell V-Power but my 350 is drinking it like water so i switched to Exxon and actually get better mileage in addition my car runs better, it may just be me, haven't actually did the calculations! Shoganai 10-17-07, 10:32 PM Chevron w/ Techron - can't go wrong datboililp 10-17-07, 10:34 PM walmart, and when im in the spending mood krogers Ramon 10-17-07, 10:38 PM I get my gas at the most convenient gas station at the time... Ryoma111 10-17-07, 11:02 PM Costco for me. Go there for everything else already. :p Jay.Diem 10-17-07, 11:47 PM i usually use Shell V-Power but my 350 is drinking it like water so i switched to Exxon and actually get better mileage in addition my car runs better, it may just be me, haven't actually did the calculations! same here... like 1mpg or so more when i go with exxon ....maybe it's a TX thing. llamaboiz 10-17-07, 11:52 PM Costco for me. Since the car was new, and already have about 100 samples in the data of various brands. First, I have noticed that there is a consistent 0.5MPG difference between the car readout and hand calc method. Second, I also found that some brands aren't as bad as I thought, while others, like Shell, aren't as good as everyone believes. When price is similar, I'd of course go for shell. Third, overall best bang for the buck comes from the cheaper brands and still net the same gas milage. Now gas mileage strictly speaking, I see little difference amongst brands, but if you want to get into power/feel, maybe the tier 1 brands are slightly better. You might want to reconsider paying that 10 cents premium for tier 1 brands. truoutkast 10-18-07, 10:45 AM my car is already expensive itself, so i decided to go with water/ leftover oil from any cooking...save money. .:woot: . . . . . jk chevron/ or shell..whichever closer. as long as i'm not on the side of the road with AAA Road Service. |
