We're happy to be among the first to bring you these very candid shots of the next-generation Pontiac Vibe, courtesy of a poster from GenVibe, a Pontiac Vibe enthusiast site. As you can see, the 2009 Vibe (GMX-126) takes the cladding molt of the 2005 refresh a step further with truly clean bodypanels free of even bodyside moldings. Medium-sized headlamp elements sweep up along the fender as the trend is today with amber directional indicators resting above the white beams. The trademark Pontiac twin-port grille is present and has been squared off in keeping with more recent models. Folding sideview mirrors debut for 2009 as does a subtle beltline dip in the sheetmetal, recalling the lines of the G6. In the rear, the taillamps are stacked and the larger, upper unit appears to contain reverse lamps.

Inside, the interior show improvement from the first-generation with a modest but distinct evolution. The podded gearshift quadrant is now more intergrated with the center floor console and the radio headunit is completely integrated for a cleaner look. The passenger side now features a seamless airbag housing. Over on the driver's side, extra bright electroluminescent displays are housed in three seperate pods - one for the tach, one for the speedometer, and a third offset oval pod for fuel/temp gauges and a driver's info center. Trademark Pontiac red illumination is present in the gauge demarcations. A large Pontiac Arrowhead occupies the center of the steering wheel, flanked by redundant stereo controls. Metallic door panel trim is new and combined with the two-tone, adds a touch of sportiness and class to the cabin. The center stack, however, loses the 110v power outlet found on the current model.

Like the current Vibe, this 2009 model will carry Toyota powertrains. The base model is likely to recieve Toyota's 2ZR-FE inline 4-cylinder, which produces 136hp and 129lb-ft of torque and is currently found in the Corolla and Scion xD or the 2AZ-FE I4 making 157hp and 162lb-ft of torque and found in Scion tC, new xB, and upcoming Toyota Blade. Its possible the base model may also carry the new ValveMatic I4 as all Toyota models are slated to have the technology by 2010. The GT model will return for 2009 and is rumored to have an automatic option.

One thing not known at this time is whether the next Vibe will even be called the Vibe. Its possible it may carry a G-prefix designator as other Pontiacs do, possibly G4. We'll know shortly, though, as the Vibe is scheduled for an introduction at the 2008 New York International Auto Show. The next-generation Vibe will continue to be assembled at the NUMMI plant in Fremont.

Well, if truth be told, that should be the same interior as the new '09 Corolla Matrix.

The Vibe and Matrix have always been the same interior and engine.

roll down windows? hubcaps?(on the silver one)

the interior's not too shabby, though a bit plain and typical...

Believe it or not, base Yaris and Corolla still have the rolldown windows, manual key and locks, and hubcaps. It's rare, but they're around, mostly for fleet sales...

The Matrix is very popular up here in Canada. With that said, that does indeed seem that the next-gen Matrix will have roughly the same interior as there are a lot of Toyota parts in that interior. A nice evolutionary upgrade for the interior, looks decently classy. The Matrix may get more standard features than the Vibe, perhaps standard power windows/locks.

Also, I've heard from some very reliable sources that the new Vibe looks quite plain compared to the new Matrix, and that the new Matrix looks much better than the current model. We shall see soon enough.

I've already posted over at a Toyota forum.. too lazy to copy and paste.. but basically, the interior looks the same as the current one.. jsut a few touches.. looks more like an update than a full redesign.

Which is weird, because the Corolla and (Corolla) Matrix go hand in hand when redesigned.

It is redesigned, but not drastically (such as the old and new gen Camry).

From what I’m hearing, 09 is the re-design year for the Corolla. The 09 Matrix / Vibe has a new powerplant (dual VVTI 1.8L). It’s due, the last re-design was 03 and the first year of the Matrix. 08 is the Landcruiser, xB and first year for the xD.

interior is completly new as is the car... it is based on new Auris/Corolla that are already out for a while now in rest of the world.

It is just that interior design follows previous design, however once you sit in it, it is completly new car.

Yeah.. I probably have to because looking at the pictures, the layout is very similar to the current one.

Yeah but the new Corolla's interior looks different from the current one (which has been around since 2000). The Vibe looks similar to the current one (just with a better radio than the current Delco ones with a billion bulky buttons)

Good. Not only should the old GT version NOT have been dropped this year, but it also should have had the automatic to START with.

Now, Pontiac and Toyota need to rectify the OTHER dumb thing they did by bringing back the AWD version as well.....and giving it enough power this time for AWD instead of that little 123 HP four on the AWD version. That was absurd.

The Pontiac division gets a sporty GT model back and the 2009 Pontiac Vibe debuts in LA at the 2007 Los Angelas Auto Show. We've gotten our hands on the first official look at the returning GT spec Vibe.

All-new, but still retaining the original's blend of style, performance and versatility, the 2009 Pontiac Vibe also signals the return of the popular all-wheel drive and performance-oriented GT models (shown here). The 2009 Vibe will make its public debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show and will be available at Pontiac dealerships in early 2008.

2009 Pontiac Vibe official details and photos

Posted on Tuesday 6 November 2007

Pontiac’s all-new Vibe small crossover has officially been released, with details and the previously promised high-resolution press shots. A variety of more powerful engine options, new interior and exterior design plus the return of the GT and AWD models give the new lineup some zing.

The base model comes standard with an increased-output 132hp 1.8L four-cylinder motor, but can be upgraded to the 2.4L 158hp motor that is standard on the GT and AWD models. A four-speed auto is also standard on AWD models, while the base and GT models can choose between a five-speed manual or an all-new five-speed electronically controlled automatic with Direct Shift Control (DSC).

Fuel economy is as good as you’d expect for a small car with a moderately powerful engine, with the 1.8L model providing 26/32mpg city/highway and the 2.4L engine yielding 21/28mpg city/highway when paired with the five-speed automatic. The four-speed automatic with AWD and 2.4L engine gives 20/26mpg city/highway.

Ride and handling have been improved to give a more responsive experience and chassis control systems have been employed as well. Suspension is standard econo-box fare with McPherson struts up ront. Base models get a torsion-beam rear suspension (sure to induce some understeer) but the GT and AWD models get a multi-link independent rear suspension that will yield better handling.

On the outside, the new Vibe is a bit leaner and more aerodynamic-looking. Gaps have been narrowed to give a more polished look and bigger wheels fitted for a more aggressive stance. Cues unique to the AWD model include a roof-mounted rack, while the GT gets a special front fascia and rocker moldings plus a roof spoiler and exhaust tip. via motorauthority

Toyota you just lost all your sales from the Matrix to Pontiac. I would never buy a Matrix over the Vibe (the new ones). The Matrix styling is just so bad in comparison to the Pontiac version.

Pontiac does better in reliability ratings compared to other GM products because it has the Vibe helping its long-term figures.

The only thing that the Vibe has against it is its American nameplate...

Definately.

The Matrix sells because it's a Toyota.

The Vibe sells because some people know it's a Toyota.
