what you all think about GT mustangs??
As some of you know I sold my ES a couple of days ago and I am looking for another car. So today I went to the ford dealership and they had 2 new 2006 Mustang GT convertables automatic with 300 miles, and some random equipments on it, MSRP in 2006 was 34,400 and I talked them down to 26,000 before tax or 28,000 OTD. Do you think this is a good deal?? Also does anyone own a GT Mustang and know the real gas mileage on those v8??
thanks for you opinion

I've owned a 96 mustang def. a step down from a Lexus. Yes they are fast but they don't have the quality of a Lexus. Plus its a Ford you'll be seeing underneath it a lot or at least my past experience with fords.

I work at a ford dealership(I get dirty looks all the time when I pull up im my ES lol) the price doesnt sound bad if they only have 300 miles. As far as the car im not sold on the relability of Mustangs. They sound good and are pretty fast in a straight line, the handling is not impressive and the back seat is useless.

The real-world gas mileage depends on many things.....air temperature, engine temperature, type of oil used, trip length, amount of stop-and-go driving, tire pressures, how much weight is in the car, road surface and, of course, how far down you push that right foot. A standard, run-of-the-mill Mustang GT is not the worst gas-guzzler by any means, but of course, if you want an econobox, look elsewhere.
Since you didn't state the exact equipment on the car, I ran a KBB (Kelly Blue Book) figure for an automatic with standard equipment and 300 miles and came up with $30,410 retail, so the figures the dealer gave you look pretty good.
http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/Pric...tion=Excellent
But check the car carefully to see if there is no hidden damage or signs of an accident...repaints, gouged wheels, uneven paint or mismatched stripes, uneven panets, etc..... When you drive it, check it for straight tracking and even alignment, and make sure there are no unreasonable shimmies in the steering or brakes (with a convertible, particularly a domestic one or a Toyota Solara, a small amount of body flex and steering wheel shake over bumps is normal). The car may be have that slightly lower price for a reason....and insist on a CARFAX report.

The real gas mileage on a GT Mustang is going to depend on your RIGHT FOOT more than anything. LOL
Definitely a fun car though, especially a convertible in FL!
Where in FL are ya?

There's practically no day-to-day practicality IMO. There's no storage space, the cupholders are in the wrong place along with the parking brake, the door cubbies can only fit credit cards, and the drone of the motor will irritate you on long highway trips.
Plus, the rear suspension comes off a 16th century, horse-pulled wagon.
It is "cool" though, and somewhat likable, despite the fact that it's a pretty rubbish car.

What are your "car" needs?
Do you need 4 doors like you had with your ES?
Do you prefer FWD like you had with your ES? (Florida weather - You probably don't need AWD/4WD.)
Do you engage in autocross or SCCA activities?
Do you need something that can pull a trailer for your bike(s)?
How many folks do you typically carry with you on a daily basis?
Tell us a little about your lifestyle and automobile requirements...

four doors are nice but 2 door might/will do
no preference really with FWD RWD
I only drive on paved roads
no hauling for me
if i get the mustang i really have good reasons not to let people ride with me
tell you the truth, the only reason i am considering this coupe is because the price of a new 06 with 300miles
thanks

Dont care for Mustangs. Boring design, they fishtail terribly and everybody has one. No originality at all. Now a new Camaro would be worthwhile.

Someone hit my GS400 and I had a V6 Stang for a rental for about 2 weeks last year while my GS was getting fixed. It's a decent car, even though it was only the V6 I had a lot of fun in it. The V8 sounds incredible too
Someone said they're not that reliable, but I don't think they're any less reliable than the average car. You'll definitely pay a lot less to fix one than a Lexus, and since it will still have a warranty, reliability shouldn't be a huge concern anyways. Even though it was just a rental I got a lot of compliments on the Stang, maybe even more than I got on my GS even though the GS is a much more expensive car (at least it was when it was new)
Someone said they have no practicality, but unless you have a wife and kids, it's got more than enough practicality for the average young, single guy.
If I were you, I'd get a used Vette (I have to admit I'm biased), you can get a nice C5 convertible for that money or even a C6 coupe if you spend a little more. The Stang would be a fun car though

If it's an '06 and now '08's are shipping, you'd be buying a 2 yr old model. There's got to be plenty more choices for similar or better money, especially as you're nearing end of year.
I went into the dealer to get my Miata on New Year's Eve at 5:30p.m. Got a goood deal.

I am with you here, an Used vette is a very good buy, and you are in a different league!
30K can give you sooo many choices.

Seems like you are craving American V8 muscle Have you considered this car below? It will dust a Mustang for sure.. There are leftover puppies at your local Pontiac dealer. The LS2 v8 has excellent gas mileage.

And what makes you think that 3 years after its release, the "new" Camaro will be more unique than the current Mustang?
As for the Mustang GT, i'm a fan of the 05+ GT's. I would not own one, but my brother does. It's a fun car...
