What happened to the other motor? 425hp in a car platform (300c?) known for unreliability, shoddy quality, and poor crash safety for almost $40k is a bit of a stretch. I wonder how much it weighs... 4000lbs?
I thought their race motor was going to go into it for some reason?
Dealer markups on those first SRTs is a big question. 425hp, probably 0-60 down in the 4's, for 38K MSRP doesn't seem out of line compared to the imports where over 400hp generally costs over 70K out the door with tax and license. Camaro's have made the auto show for two years but still haven't seen one of these at the auto shows here. May not have the build quality of the imports but it will be a lot of fun from stoplights. Probably more user friendly to the aged than the ultra low Camaro.

+1 $40k OTD would be great if it offered anything more than nostalgia and HP. I bet it handles as much like a boat as it looks like one.
Im afraid that this Challenger will be a 2-door version of the 300C/Charger and nothing else. No other performance modifications to differentiate the coupe (which should be sportier ) from the sedans. A cheap way to just bring back the name.
You know, I am not sure I am a potential buyer for one of these but there are a few things to keep in mind. The Challenger is a shortened 300C platform, as has been pointed out. But this was lifted from the last MB E class. The 300C body leaves me cold, even before the owner reputation became obvious. But after having rented one for a week and running around the desert and canyons around Las Vegas I have to admit that it is a surprisingly good package as far as ride handling goes. I would say that the rental car was easily better than my GS in stock form for handling and with a couple of mods my car probably handles better but doesn't ride as nicely IMO. There are worse things for the Challenger to be than a shortened 300C suspension. And opposed to the neanderthal Mustang which sells quite well, this Challenger will have independent rear suspension. I am not trying to build this car up to be something marvelous and revolutionary, haven't even seen the thing yet, but I am very willing to give ChryCo a chance with it. It won't be a bimmer but it is going to cost considerably less than any bimmer with 400hp. And from someone who remembers the original 60s pony cars, I have a feeling it will put the originals to shame in the ride/handling department. Not a bad price to get one and just put it in a garage. Wish I had done that with an original convertible hemi challenger or cuda.
That look HOT! I hope they actually put some mental brainpower into the interior unlike the disgusting Mustang retro. Priced about right. Would be nice to have one to throw in the garage.
I had to drive a rental Mustang from Baton Rouge to Mobile; piece of junk; felt like I was driving a truck; literally, because two days later I borrowed my dad's truck to go to Panama City for thanksgiving lol.
