Good thread from VWVortex, what do yall think of how the Prius is doing?

And yes, Toyota broke even a long time ago (Prius has been selling for 10 years now) and is making a profit.

Truly huge. Also, Toyota sells more hybrids worldwide than Mercedes-Benz sells cars (MB brand itself), according to a speech this summer by Jim Press.

I believe it's fighting with the Tundra for 3rd place after the Camry (400,000+ units per year) and the Corolla in the Toyota lineup.

Oddly enough, if I exclude the taxis, I think more TCHs are being bought in my area than Prius. In fact, 1 in 4 Camrys sold in BC is a Camry Hybrid!

gets recycled like every car battery does, nevermind the fact that some prius have went 200k+ miles with no hybrid component failure

My local Federal Credit Union is giving away a 07/08 Prius. Took a look at the window sticker while I was waiting in line and it showed around $23K. The prices seem to be coming down on these cars as at one point where I live you had to pay nearly $30K for one. While I was waiting in line, I thought about picking one up since we now live within 3-4 miles from work for both my wife and I. I figured I could add some nice 19"rims, a good A/V system for my son, and enter it in car shows But then, I'm not sure if anyone makes an exhausts system or intake or any other performance mods for the engine side. Do they even make lowering springs for this car? Maybe just go with Universal Air. Anyway, buy the time I got to a teller I decide against it. Fixing up a Camry Hybrid or Accord Hybrid is probably a better choice since the body is the same as its non Hybrid brothers, so more exterior parts should be available.

Welcome to gas conscious America! Anywhere else in the world, diesels rule. All Toyota has to do now is make a diesel/hybrid. Gas mileage would be awesome.

diesels in my opinion are not the way to go.

if you do some research, even the cleanest diesels arent that great.

the only plus is mpg, but the emissions are still not as clean. there are still a lot of particles being released into the air; the particles are smaller in mass than what they used to be, but there are a greater number of them.

plus, the loud ticking noise would drive me crazy
