Default quick question (Has anyone powder coat chrome rims? How was the result? Will it last)

Has anyone powder coat chrome rims? How was the result? Will it last a long time? Is it a good idea or a bad idea? Any other suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated. Fyi (Black powder coat)

I'm not an expert but I've heard that the high temperatures used when the rims are baked after powdercoating can weaken rims

If you're talking about actual chrome and not polished wheels, I would think the chrome coating would have to be blasted off (?) before it could be powder coated.

Either way - some sort of prep would need to be done to ensure the powder coating process works, and lasts.

Clearly not an expert since most OEM rims are powdercoated.

I have my motorcycle rims/wheels powdercoated, and although they were not chrome before, they do last a long time. I've even powdercoated motorcycle exhaust pipes that can get extremely hot, and I had absolutely no problems with the powdercoat degrading over several thousand miles.

My brother had chrome wheels that he powdercoated for his Ford Explorer; he actually powdercoated the spokes and kept the lip chrome. It worked without flaw.

Is it a good idea? Well, the good is that you do have a unique look and it's not that expensive. The bad is that it's not as sturdy as something structurally inate such as a polished alloy or chrome plating, but the right technician will be able to promote a strong bond of the powdercoat to the chrome (sanding, adhesives, etc).

Name some major auto manufacturers, I'll bet their oem rims are powdercoated.
