Thanks to AutoSpies, we have a sneak peek at what Lexus is about to unveil at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. Anyone wanna take a guess at what it is? Looks like an LF-A convertible to me. Or could it be the next SC?:uh: Either way it's exciting!:p

Looks like they are keeping the sexy design of teh LF-A II concept and not the bland styling of the mules that have been running around. Lexus! Enough with the teaser concepts! Hopefully this concept is closer to production, and we can start seeing some production LF-A's out on the road soon!
Also, how refreshing is it to see LF-A in a color other than silver?

LF-A convertible. Yet they still don't even have the hard top ready.
Hopefully the LF-A convertible wont be the SC replacement, seeing I was the SC to be like a 2-door LS, so it can compete with the CL. If not the LF-A convertible could be the hybrid version which would go up against the SL maybe?!

I agree, convertables do nothing for me and I think super high performance sports cars like the LFA are the last cars you want to chop the roof off so you can be seen by everybody and go cruising around town with the wind blowing in your hair, leave that to softer cruisers and other cars not designed for super high performance. I don't care how much I want a Porsche 997 911S or turbo or F430 or E46M3 if I found one at a super great price but it was a convertable that would be a deal breaker for me and I would not even consider it. Give me a hardtop anyday or at least a folding hardtop if you have to. They spend all that time, effort, and money to make the car as light as possible, handle as good as possible, be as pure and rigid as possible and then chop the roof off and ruin it just so mainly rich celebrities can be seen more cruising around town and it is fashionable at the expense of design and performance. M3, 911, Ferrari F430 or any model, Lamborgini, Pagani, SLR, etc, convertables make absolutely no sense to me and are great high performance sports cars compromised and made fashionable for non enthusiasts to be seen in. I really can't believe Ferrari makes convertables being that they are so dedicated to pure sports cars with little frills but they are chasing sales so they end up compromising for those sales.

I believe it is the stylistic curve detail near the aft rear pillar, which leads into quarter windows on the coupe LF-A, and is modified naturally on the convertible version:

DETROIT (Jan. 13, 2008) - The engineers and designers at Lexus continue to use their groundbreaking LF-A premium sports car concept as a medium for expressing their ideas about what a high-performance sporting vehicle not only can be, but should be. In this latest expression of the LF-A, they have removed the car's top to create a high-performance roadster. The LF-A Roadster is based on the sturdy yet lightweight carbon-fiber and aluminum body used for the LF-A coupe, which helps maintain the structure's strength and rigidity even without a top.
Like its coupe counterpart, the LF-A Roadster is powered by a high-revving V10 engine that approaches 5.0 liters in displacement. The V10, capable of more than 500 horsepower and test-track speeds greater than 200 mph, is mounted in front of the passenger compartment but behind the front-axle centerline in what the LF-A's engineers refer to as a "front-mid" configuration.
The engine is connected via a torque tube and propeller shaft to a transaxle that is controlled by paddle shifters. The torque tube is a structural member that adds rigidity to the drivetrain and chassis while also reducing vibration. Styling is rooted in the Lexus L-Finesse design philosophy, conferring the LF-A Roadster's front end with a compact, low-profile, aerodynamic shape. Like its coupe counterpart, the LF-A Roadster stands just 48 inches tall, but the Roadster configuration adds a speed adaptive rear wing.
The rear is marked by a pair of wrap-around, arrowhead-shaped taillights that bracket a pair of large grilles. These grilles vent the heated air from the car's two rear-mounted radiators into the LF-A Roadster's aerodynamic wake. The radiators are fed cool air by two large intake ducts mounted just above the rear wheel wells. This aft radiator positioning not only allowed the designers to keep the car's front profile low and tight but also aided the LF-A's chassis engineers in their search for optimal weight distribution.
Helping to provide balance and scale to the design, which features an overall length of 175.6 inches and a wheelbase of 102.6 inches, are high-performance tires on turbine-styled alloy wheels. The front tires are 265/35R20s, while the rears are 305/30R20s. Like the LF-A coupe, the brakes consist of 14.2-inch cross-drilled, vented discs up front, and 13.6-inch cross- drilled, vented discs at the rear. The front brake calipers are six-piston units and the rear calipers use four pistons each.
An "F" logo, located on each front fender of the Roadster, indicates the vehicle's status as a part of the new "F" marque. The name is derived from the original "F" designation for the first Lexus LS prototype. That vehicle was internally coded "Circle-F," with the "F" standing for "flagship." The Circle-F designation further evolved into the code name Flagship One, or F1, and the first F1 concept developed into Lexus' first vehicle, the LS. Since then, the "F" code has come to signify a special vehicle program within Lexus that falls outside the normal engineering and development process. In addition, Fuji Speedway is the IS F's home circuit, and the shape of the F-logo was inspired by many of the track's turns. The all-new Lexus IS F sport sedan is the first production vehicle to carry the F marque.

All we are missing is news on an SC/IS Coupe-Convertible and GX.
I think the front end is better than the LF-A II concept. More production ready. All in all I think that this has unique Japanese styling with a touch of Italian curves here and there, overall a gorgeous looking vehicle. That being said, this looks like a replacement for the SC, and I'd rather take the hard top with presumable lighter weight and/or a more rigid structure and the huge CF brakes that are conspiciously absent from this concept (that worries me to some extent).
To sum it up, take that F badge off the front fender, call this the SC and get to work on finishing up the hardtop F model.

I wish the design were more cohesive. This car is on its way to production; you can tell with the simpler front end, and the new rear that has a crash-ready bumper design. The front end looks better than any other LF-A concept before it, but the rear just looks too bulbous and ugly now. Also, Lexus seriously needs to design better quarter panels. The rear quarter panel with the scoop just looks bad. There's no other way around it. It needs more flare, more coke-bottle design. And the descending line coming down from the scoop completely negates the wedge profile of this car, making it look like a heap instead.

The vents are for the radiators in the rear and the vents in the "butt" (I assume you're talking about the exhaust) are functional as well. They're on the test mule and Lexus has stated that the exhaust is designed to close off some of the exhaust at low speed and open all 3 for wide open throttle.

Nevermind, got too excited to see this:D:slap::
An "F" logo, located on each front fender of the Roadster, indicates the vehicle's status as a part of the new "F" marque.
That's a better picture of the front splitter that shows the carbon fiber weave.Interesting... in other words, the front spoiler "looks" white in the previous picture probably only because of the bright lighting. It's otherwise unpainted, in the natural color of the carbon fiber.

It reminds me of the nice Lexus model who did the SC 430 demo at the LA auto show awhile back. She did her catwalk around the car, leisurely slipped in, turned on some very sexy music, tossed back her hair as the top unfolded....
